(Part 18 of 21)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0478 What happens after&nbsp;<em>the hand-component of hand-speech talk<\/em>&nbsp;dies?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Slide50-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Slide50-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9731\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Slide50-1.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Slide50-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0479 After the first singularity,&nbsp;<em>traditions that relied on hand-talk<\/em>&nbsp;are lost or are modified to work with speech-alone talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course,&nbsp;<em>the modification business<\/em>&nbsp;cannot stand, because hand-talk facilitates implicit abstraction and speech-alone can only pretend to facilitate implicit abstraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0480 Pretend?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since&nbsp;<em>speech-alone talk<\/em>&nbsp;does not picture or point its referents,&nbsp;<em>the spoken word<\/em>&nbsp;precedes&nbsp;<em>its referent<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;But, since&nbsp;<em>language<\/em>&nbsp;evolves in&nbsp;<em>the milieu of hand-talk,<\/em>&nbsp;we innately expect&nbsp;<em>the referent<\/em>&nbsp;to precede&nbsp;<em>the word,<\/em>&nbsp;rather than the other way around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Speech-alone talk<\/em>&nbsp;gives the impression that it images and indicates referents because word-referent associations exist before each individual is born, whether they are sensible or social constructions.&nbsp;&nbsp;In doing so, spoken words fulfill our evolved expectations.&nbsp;&nbsp;We expect&nbsp;<em>the referent&nbsp;<\/em>to precede&nbsp;<em>the word,<\/em>&nbsp;rather than the other way around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0481 Steven Mithen devotes an entire chapter in&nbsp;<em>The Language Puzzle<\/em>&nbsp;to the issue of finding and learning the meanings of spoken words in&nbsp;<em>our current Lebenswelt<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guess&nbsp;<em>how infants figure out spoken words<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They already know that words exist.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is only a matter of figuring out&nbsp;<em>what they are<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Infants recognize&nbsp;<em>one spoken word<\/em>&nbsp;from&nbsp;<em>another<\/em>&nbsp;by tracking&nbsp;<em>transition possibilities<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They do so before they start to talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0482 How much easier their lives would be if they grew up in a hand-speech talk tradition?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hmmm, maybe, I should say, &#8220;How much more intuitively natural their mental processing would be, if&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0484 Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why many current psychologists see no need to entertain the four interweaving hypotheses proposed by Julian Jaynes in 1976.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are focused on investigating&nbsp;<em>the nature of language<\/em>&nbsp;using&nbsp;<em>sophisticated observations and measurements<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;They cannot see how&nbsp;<em>their investigations<\/em>&nbsp;comport with&nbsp;<em>Jaynes&#8217;s formulation of the bicameral mind<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>The scientists<\/em>&nbsp;are doing precisely&nbsp;<em>what the voices in their heads are telling them to do<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I know that sounds goofy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, introspection does not seem to be a strong suite when it comes to modern bigilib academic &#8220;scientific&#8221; disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0485 Consider modern science in light of the following interaction between Wernicke&#8217;s regions, right and left, as delineated through Jaynes&#8217;s paradigm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Slide51-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Slide51-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9732\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Slide51-1.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Slide51-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0486 Commitment<sub>2c<\/sub>&nbsp;resides in&nbsp;<em>Wernicke&#8217;s region on the right<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;A positivist intellect<sub>3(2c)<\/sub>&nbsp;(<em>rationes<sub>3(2c)<\/sub><\/em>) brings&nbsp;<em>the actuality of disciplinary language<sub>2(2a)<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;into relation with&nbsp;<em>the possibility of observations and measurements<sub>1(2c)<\/sub>.<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;Disciplinary language<sub>2(2a)<\/sub>&nbsp;is treated as if its symbolic terms are icons and indexes of {real things [substantiating] phenomena}<sub>2(2c)<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;In the process,&nbsp;<em>Wernicke&#8217;s region on the right<\/em>&nbsp;weighs&nbsp;<em>what is<sub>2(2c)<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<em>the basis of universality<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The scientist implicitly abstracts&nbsp;<em>a species impressa<sub>2(2a)<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;where phenomena speak for themselves<sub>2(2c)<\/sub>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;in the language of the scientist&#8217;s discipline<sub>2(2a)<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, observations and measurements<sub>1(2c)<\/sub>&nbsp;will be situated as intelligible perceptions<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;when they become&#8230; um&#8230; data for models<sub>2b<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0487 Can I say that another way?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phenomena speak for themselves<sub>2(2c)<\/sub>&nbsp;through mathematical and mechanical symbols<sub>2(2c)<\/sub>&nbsp;in the normal context of a positivist intellect<sub>2(2c)<\/sub>&nbsp;operating on the potential of &#8216;intelligible observations and measurements<sub>1(2c)<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0488 That is the SV<sub>i<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;What is the SO<sub>i<\/sub>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Disciplinary technical terms [decode and go into] a scientific&nbsp;<em>species impressa<sub>2(2a)<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<em>the normal context of positivist sensation<sub>3(2a)<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;(portrayed here as the juxtaposition of &#8220;sense&#8221;
