New stories told.&nbsp;&nbsp;Marriages must be arranged.&nbsp;&nbsp;Deaths must be discussed.&nbsp;&nbsp;Such are&nbsp;<em>the branches and the roots of the tree of life<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Singing in these large social circles<\/em>&nbsp;translates into&nbsp;<em>everyday life<\/em>&nbsp;through&nbsp;<em>sexual selection<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Mate preference<\/em>&nbsp;may well account for why male and female adults have different vocal ranges and can sing in harmony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0195 But, there remains a second &#8220;how&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0<em>A vocal accompaniment<\/em>&#8230;\u00a0<em>a vocal adornment<\/em>&#8230; is knit to\u00a0<em>each hand-talk word<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0This is precisely where\u00a0<em>Mithen&#8217;s hidden intuition<\/em>\u00a0shines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where s<em>ynaesthesia\u00a0<\/em>enters the picture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0183 What about the voice?
