(Part 18 of 25)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0142 In chapter 14, Ross discusses Biblical cues to the Earth&#8217;s age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In doing so, he brings the weight of his argument to bear on the Creation Story (Genesis 1-2.3), because that is the anomaly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0143 The anomaly?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Bible started with the Primeval History (Genesis 2.4-11), then the Bible would honestly agree with all the other origin stories of the ancient Near East.&nbsp;&nbsp;Humans (as far as the early civilizations are concerned) are recent creations.&nbsp;&nbsp;We, civilized folk, are connected to the first humans by way of genealogies.&nbsp;&nbsp;We do not recognize the deep reaches of evolutionary time.&nbsp;&nbsp;Or, maybe, we pay tribute to evolutionary time by saying that the first humans lived for thousands and thousands of years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Consult the Sumerian king list on that one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0144 Yes, the Creation Story is the anomaly.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hugh Ross, familiar with evolutionary science, sees the signification immediately.&nbsp;&nbsp;Later, after years of research, he now realizes that the Bible is peppered with phrases that signify deep evolutionary time.&nbsp;&nbsp;He mentions Genesis 49:26, Habbakkuk 3:6, Judges 5:21, and Micah 6.2.&nbsp;&nbsp;But, the Creation Story is incredible in its recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Genesis Creation Story<\/em>&nbsp;is a sign of&nbsp;<em>the evolutionary record<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0145 Why does Hugh Ross conjure this conclusion, yet appears to be incapable of articulating it clearly?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ah, remember the late scholastic judgment where&nbsp;<em>the relation<\/em>&nbsp;says that &#8220;grace&#8221; and &#8220;nature&#8221; are distinct and separable?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recall that, over hundreds of years, this early modern judgment calcifies into two contending parties, one exalting grace<sub>3c<\/sub>&nbsp;and one exalting nature<sub>3c<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And don&#8217;t forget, during that last span, science is successfully born in Western Civilization.&nbsp;&nbsp;So,&nbsp;<em>the exalting nature<sub>3c<\/sub>party<\/em>&nbsp;appears ascendant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0146 What is &#8220;reality&#8221;?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Truncated material and efficient causalities<\/em>&nbsp;are&nbsp;<em>the presence underlying term, &#8220;reality&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What&nbsp;<em>is the message<\/em>&nbsp;<em>of modern material and instrumental &#8220;reality&#8221;?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The message<\/em>&nbsp;is that the authorship of the Bible is human, not divine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0147 Take a look at the term, &#8220;inerrancy&#8221;, once again..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Slide42.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Slide42.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Slide42.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Slide42-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0148 What does &#8220;reality&#8221;&nbsp;<em>mean&nbsp;<\/em>for&nbsp;<em>the party that exalts nature<sub>3c<\/sub>?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow the positivist intellect.&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8220;Reality&#8221; means that &#8220;metaphysics is not permitted&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0149 Hugh Ross does not agree, because&nbsp;<em>Genesis One<\/em>&nbsp;looks like&nbsp;<em>a description of the evolutionary record<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If he only had&nbsp;<em>a model for delineating that appearance<\/em>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<em>a way that scientists might appreciate<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0150 What would&nbsp;<em>a model<\/em>&nbsp;entail?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First,&nbsp;<em>the Creation Story<\/em>&nbsp;comports with&nbsp;<em>the first abstraction in natural philosophy<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Say what?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each Genesis One &#8220;day&#8221; offers clues to something that looks like Aristotle&#8217;s hylomorphe,&nbsp;<em>matter [substance] form<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Here is a picture of&nbsp;<em>how that might look<\/em>&nbsp;for the first day of creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Slide43.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Slide43.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Slide43.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Slide43-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0151 To me, this touches base with the way that Ross discusses&nbsp;<em>the perspicuity of Scripture<\/em>&nbsp;in chapter 15.&nbsp;&nbsp;Biblical perspicuity is like visual acuity.&nbsp;&nbsp;It&#8217;s the ability to see clearly and comprehensibly.&nbsp;&nbsp;But what does that mean?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If every Biblical verse is an actuality<sub>2<\/sub>, then Biblical perspicuity means that we can understand that actuality<sub>2<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;What is understanding?&nbsp;&nbsp;Understanding applies a normal context<sub>3<\/sub>&nbsp;and potential<sub>1<\/sub>&nbsp;&nbsp;to an actuality<sub>2<\/sub>.
