is a point of contention.&nbsp;&nbsp;Does the term have a clear technical definition?&nbsp;&nbsp;Or does &#8220;niche&#8221; suggest &#8220;whatever adaptations are adapting to&#8221;?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surely,&nbsp;<em>a technical definition<\/em>&nbsp;is implied by&nbsp;<em>the above figure<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>A niche<sub>1b<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;is&nbsp;<em>the potential<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;of an actuality of the adapting species<sub>2a<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1234 This introduces another point of contention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does the niche have to consist of purely material conditions, whether environmental or ecological?&nbsp;&nbsp;The answer is no, even though, for almost all species, the niche is the potential of &#8216;something&#8217;
