[Now I will put the picture in the last blog into words and think about some of the implications.<\/p>\n

The Law (thinkdivine<\/sup>) puts virtue into context.\u00a0 Virtue situates consciencefree<\/sup>.\u00a0 Virtue also situates (trains) dispositions.<\/p>\n

Transgressions situate consciencelacking<\/sup>.\u00a0 Transgressions also situate natural & philosophical dispositions; or maybe, material and immaterial desires.<\/p>\n

This curiously implies that consciencelacking<\/sup> is opportunistic in selecting transgressions that appeal to one\u2019s dispositions.\u00a0 By “opportunistic”, I mean \u201ca process like natural selection\u201d.\u00a0 Natural selection is opportunistic.\u00a0 Both adaptations and exaptations are opportunistic.<\/p>\n

In short, consciencelacking<\/sup> is looking for ways to tell one\u2019s dispositions \u201cwhat they want to hear\u201d.\u00a0 The dispositions are poised to act. \u00a0Both consciencelacking<\/sup> and one’s dispositions are situated by the transgression.<\/p>\n

In addition, the exclusive yet interpellating character of consciencelacking<\/sup> and consciencefree<\/sup> may be foundational in the way that consciencelacking<\/sup> packages itself as it potentiates transgression.\u00a0 Consciencelacking <\/sup>senses the Law in consciencefree<\/sup>\u2019s ordination (like orientation, but including both material and immaterial dimensions).<\/p>\n

My guess (which is consistent with Paul’s Letter to the Romans) is that consciencelacking<\/sup> goes against the Law by revolting against consciencefree<\/sup>, the forbidding yet interpellating other, so that the person is less disposed to \u201cthe freedom to seek and align oneself with the truth (which is God\u2019s Law)\u201d and more disposed to \u201cthe advantages to me of acting out this transgression\u201d.]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
