codes for operant conditioning), leading to&nbsp;<em>occasional confusion<\/em>&nbsp;(as to whether &#8220;anticipation&#8221; is a conscious action or an unconscious process).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0644&nbsp;<em>Sharov and Tonnessen&#8217;s noumenal&nbsp;<\/em>overlay characterizes&nbsp;<em>semiotic agency<sub>2<\/sub>,<\/em>&nbsp;as occurring in&nbsp;<em>the normal context of an agent<sub>3<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;and arising from&nbsp;<em>the potential of Aristotle&#8217;s final causality&#8217;<sub>1<\/sub><\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;This serves as&nbsp;<em>a very attractive corrective<\/em>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<em>the indiscretions of certain biologists who fall in love with their terminology<\/em>&nbsp;(including, I am afraid to say, the authors of the present chapter).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0645 Yes, I admit that &#8220;the sentient cell&#8221; is a fabulous label for&nbsp;<em>models that arise from biological observations of message, meaning and presence in semiotic agency<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But still, one must be careful not to occlude&nbsp;<em>the semiotics<\/em>&nbsp;within&nbsp;<em>the S&amp;T noumenal overlay<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0646 Here is a picture of&nbsp;<em>the thing itself<\/em>&nbsp;against the beautiful&#8230;
