{"id":884,"date":"2013-12-10T03:03:20","date_gmt":"2013-12-10T03:03:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=884"},"modified":"2014-10-07T23:01:50","modified_gmt":"2014-10-07T23:01:50","slug":"thoughts-on-man-and-sin-by-piet-schoonenberg-1964-1-2c2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=884","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on Man and Sin by Piet Schoonenberg (1964) 1.2C2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[The Pharisees, Sadducees and Scribes were as close to sovereign power as any non-Roman could get in the Roman Empire.<\/p>\n<p>Their sovereign<sup>infra<\/sup> focused on \u201cknowing how to fulfill the letter of the covenant\u201d, thus generating two (vertical intersecting) nested forms headed by think<sup>law-filled<\/sup><sub>3<\/sub> and think<sup>unlawful<\/sup><sub>3<\/sub>.<\/p>\n<p>The normal context of think<sup>unlawful<\/sup><sub>3<\/sub> was projected onto almost everyone who was not a member or a supporter.\u00a0 Political resistance was interpreted as disobedience to the Laws of Moses.\u00a0 Political resistors were tagged as holding \u201cunlawful views\u201d; that is, think<sup>unlawful<\/sup><sub>3<\/sub>; and having a \u201cbad conscience\u201d; that is, a conscience<sup>unlawful<\/sup><sub>1<\/sub>.<\/p>\n<p>The accusers, the Pharisees, Sadducees and Scribes, could not be accused.\u00a0 They were \u201cgolden calves\u201d in contrast to the \u201cscapegoated\u201d prophets. \u00a0Sovereign power was used by the Pharisees to close the language, so that everything could be defined as either &#8220;lawful&#8221; or &#8220;unlawful&#8221;.\u00a0 As soon as any debate was phrased in the language of the Pharisees, the debate was over.<\/p>\n<p>The prophets had to step out of the established framework.\u00a0 They had to withdraw.\u00a0 They went into the desert.<\/p>\n<p>Both John the Baptist and Jesus went into the desert. \u00a0John baptized in the wilderness.\u00a0 Jesus taught in parables.\u00a0 Both stepped out of the totalizing paradigm of the sovereign<sup>infra<\/sup> religion of the Second Temple.]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[The Pharisees, Sadducees and Scribes were as close to sovereign power as any non-Roman could get in the Roman Empire.
