{"id":81,"date":"2012-12-22T21:33:29","date_gmt":"2012-12-22T21:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/75.103.96.165\/blog\/?p=81"},"modified":"2014-10-07T23:03:14","modified_gmt":"2014-10-07T23:03:14","slug":"thoughts-on-original-sin-by-tatha-wiley-2002-2b","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=81","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on Original Sin by Tatha Wiley (2002) 2B"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now, let me put this doctrine into a nested format.<\/p>\n<p>At first, one would think that the spirit-descent is what puts the soul and body into context.\u00a0 That is, it belongs to thirdness.\u00a0 Then the \u201csoul\u201d belongs to the realm of possibility and \u201cbody\u201d belongs to the realm of actuality.\u00a0 The nested result is:<\/p>\n<p>Spirit-descent (body (soul))<\/p>\n<p>I prefer an alternate to the obvious.\u00a0 The \u201csoul as animating principle of the body\u201d puts the \u201cbody\u201d into context.\u00a0 Then the \u201cspirit-descent\u201d is the possibility that makes the \u201cbody\u201d possible.\u00a0 The nested result is:<\/p>\n<p>Soul(body(spirit-descent)<\/p>\n<p>I prefer this alternative because it captures the sensibilities of many Pagan traditions.\u00a0 For example, the Stoics tried to train the soul to discipline the body.\u00a0 Why did the body need to be disciplined?\u00a0 The flawed nature of the body was made possible by its descent.\u00a0 Similarly, some Ascetics attempted to \u201cpeel the soul away from the body\u201d through various techniques, thereby undoing the attachments to the body accrued by the descent.<\/p>\n<p>In sum, instead of spirit-descent acting to bring the soul into the body, spirit-descent makes the accrual of the material body by the immaterial soul possible.\u00a0 The spirit-descent acts like trapdoor that sends the good blissful soul crashing down to earth.\u00a0 The spirit-descent is as unpredictable as any natural or divine phenomena.<\/p>\n<p>And more horrifying, the spirit-descent defines the person\u2019s fate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now, let me put this doctrine into a nested format.
