{"id":7998,"date":"2024-08-28T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-28T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=7998"},"modified":"2024-06-24T21:40:19","modified_gmt":"2024-06-24T21:40:19","slug":"looking-at-vivek-ramaswamys-book-2021-woke-inc-part-4-of-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=7998","title":{"rendered":"Looking at Vivek Ramaswamy&#8217;s Book (2021) &#8220;Woke, Inc.&#8221; (Part 4 of 20)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0289 Chapter thirteen explores&nbsp;<em>woke consumerism<\/em>&nbsp;<em>and the way that people will sort themselves into like-minded groups<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ramaswamy frames the sorting as &#8220;woke&#8221; versus &#8220;commonsense&#8221; people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He could have used the terms, &#8220;bigilib&#8221; and &#8220;pluralist&#8221;, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Woke people say that &#8220;service&#8221; is&nbsp;<em>what an expert says it is<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commonsense people say that &#8220;service&#8221; is&nbsp;<em>an act of individual responsibility<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0290 It makes me wonder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are woke people scientific-minded?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do commonsense people ignore science?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0291 Or, maybe I can clarify the distinction with the following questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are woke people socialist?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are commonsense people capitalist?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0292 Here,&nbsp;<em>the framework<\/em>&nbsp;starts to muddle.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>Socialist&#8221; and &#8220;capitalist&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;label&nbsp;<em>opposing denkstyles<\/em>&nbsp;in the previous&nbsp;<em>Battle of the Enlightenment Gods: The Cold War Among Materialist Ideologies<\/em>&nbsp;(1945-1989).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Each contending worldview<\/em>&nbsp;is materialist in its own way.&nbsp;&nbsp;The war is &#8220;cold&#8221; because no one wants to use nuclear weapons in a military conflict.&nbsp;&nbsp;So,&nbsp;<em>the so-called &#8220;Cold War&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;is conducted as proxy warfare, where &#8220;small&#8221; countries become proxies in contests between the capitalist USA and the communist USSR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0293 Each contending view is relativist in its own way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What does &#8220;relativism&#8221; imply?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Relativism is like a language.&nbsp;&nbsp;A language consists of two related systems of differences,&nbsp;<em>parole<\/em>&nbsp;(talk) and&nbsp;<em>langue<\/em>&nbsp;(mental processing of talk).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I already wrestle with&nbsp;<em>a distinction similar to langue and parole<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The distinction is between&nbsp;<em>what I think<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>what I am willing to say to an interlocutor<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;In this example, contiguity between&nbsp;<em>langue<\/em>&nbsp;(what I think) and&nbsp;<em>parole<\/em>&nbsp;(what I am willing to say) is bimodal.&nbsp;&nbsp;The contiguity may be [cannot be objectified as], when I have&nbsp;<em>commonsense<\/em>&nbsp;(and the observing scientist does not). play central roles in&nbsp;<em>the Third Battle of the Enlightenment Gods<\/em>&nbsp;(1945-1989).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lots of ink has been spilled within each questionable box over these two expressions of expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide13-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide13-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8001\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide13-2.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide13-2-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0304 Indeed, I can see why&nbsp;<em>people who adhere to the socialist one<sub>1c<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>people who adhere to the capitalist one<sub>1c<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;would want to segregate into two different jurisdictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0305 But, Ramaswamy&#8217;s book makes makes me wonder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the so-called Cold War is all about capitalism versus socialism, then why does the USA have so many socialists?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a good question, since it seems that today, corporate capitalists have embraced social justice.&nbsp;&nbsp;Indeed, the subtitle of Ramaswamy&#8217;s book makes the accusation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0306 Corporate capitalists<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;embrace socialist values<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;in order to make money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is it a scam?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or, is it a tactic in&nbsp;<em>the Fourth Battle of the Enlightenment Gods?<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0289 Chapter thirteen explores&nbsp;woke consumerism&nbsp;and the way that people will sort themselves into like-minded groups.
