(Part 6 of 8)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0807 After this rollout on&nbsp;<em>the abuse of language,<\/em>&nbsp;I return to&nbsp;<em>the virtual nested form in the category of firstness<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide15-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide15-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7971\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide15-1.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide15-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0808 I summarize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The will<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;to speak my mind<sub>2a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;addresses&nbsp;<em>the two-fold purpose to spoken words and language<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First,&nbsp;<em>spoken words<\/em>&nbsp;should picture or point to their referents.&nbsp;&nbsp;In this, they do not.&nbsp;&nbsp;But, they do the next best thing.&nbsp;&nbsp;Spoken words convey&nbsp;<em>reality<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Reality<\/em>&nbsp;is&nbsp;<em>one perfection of spoken words<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Second,&nbsp;<em>spoken words<\/em>&nbsp;intend to establish&nbsp;<em>a common understanding<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;What is understanding?&nbsp;&nbsp;Understanding is a complete nested form, where a normal context<sub>3<\/sub>&nbsp;brings an actuality<sub>2<\/sub>&nbsp;into relation with its potential<sub>1<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Spoken words<sub>2<\/sub>&nbsp;need to do that.&nbsp;&nbsp;That need is satisfied for&nbsp;<em>a spoken word<\/em>&nbsp;when&nbsp;<em>a definition<sub>3<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;brings&nbsp;<em>that spoken word<sub>2<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;into relation with&nbsp;<em>the potential of meaning, presence and message<sub>1<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0809 In&nbsp;<em>the normal context of rhetorical discourse<sub>3b<\/sub><\/em>, sophists formally package understanding<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;according to variations of the above formula.&nbsp;&nbsp;Definition<sub>3<\/sub>&nbsp;brings a spoken word<sub>2<\/sub>&nbsp;into relation with the potentials of&nbsp;<em>what I think<\/em>&nbsp;(meaning)<sub>1<\/sub>,&nbsp;<em>what I say<\/em>&nbsp;(message)<sub>1<\/sub>, and&nbsp;<em>the intellect<sub>1<\/sub>,&nbsp;<\/em>as&nbsp;<em>that which characterizes whether one particular word is used or not<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0810 What about the will<sub>1a<\/sub>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, the only reason why the sophist<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;situates the citizen<sub>3a,1a<\/sub>&nbsp;through rhetorical discourse<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;is to be victorious<sub>1a<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oops.&nbsp;&nbsp;I should not have mentioned that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0811 Instead, let me say that the sophist<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;frames each proposition<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;in order to articulate sophisticated values<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;(the citizen<sub>3a,1a<\/sub>&nbsp;is obviously incapable of doing this, since he is merely saying&nbsp;<em>what he thinks<sub>2a<\/sub><\/em>).&nbsp;&nbsp;This requires that&nbsp;<em>the understanding that the citizen expresses<sub>2a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;be repackaged into&nbsp;<em>well-defined propositions<sub>1b<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;in such a manner that the ongoing discourse<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;reveals&nbsp;<em>the reality that the sophist wants the citizen to endorse<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0812 Finally, the packaging of knowledge<sub>1b<\/sub>, the sophistication of the argument<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;and the reality of the discourse itself<sub>3b<\/sub>flatter<sub>1c<\/sub>&nbsp;the one who pays the sophist<sub>3c<\/sub>&nbsp;and provides the opportunity<sub>1c<\/sub>&nbsp;for a decision<sub>2c<\/sub>&nbsp;that will provide well-deserved remuneration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I suspect that the last sentence may be regarded as offensive by&nbsp;<em>the one who pays<sub>3c<\/sub><\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;No one is supposed to talk about&nbsp;<em>the one who pays the sophist<\/em>&nbsp;from&nbsp;<em>the riches that he earns from political manipulation of public decisions<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus, sophists<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;are not really redefining the meaning, message and presence underlying spoken words.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are &#8220;adjusting&#8221; them to suite their needs.&nbsp;&nbsp;Yes, particular situations call for particular adjustments.&nbsp;&nbsp;Finally, the victorious will<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;does not opportunistically say&nbsp;<em>what is necessary to win<sub>1a<\/sub>.<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>The intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;with the he victorious will<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;only states<em>what furthers a rhetorical position<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0813 Now,&nbsp;<em>the reason why Plato despises the sophists<\/em>&nbsp;becomes&nbsp;<em>a little more transparent<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Their abuse of words<\/em>&nbsp;leads to&nbsp;<em>the corruption of language<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After all,&nbsp;<em>the two functions of spoken words<\/em>&nbsp;are&nbsp;<em>to convey reality<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>to achieve understanding<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither is furthered by&nbsp;<em>the virtual nested form pictured above<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0814 The sophist is not concerned about the truth.&nbsp;&nbsp;The truth should resonate with my will<sub>1a<\/sub>, but it does not, because there are two wills in play on the content level,&nbsp;<em>the will of the citizen<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>the will of the victory-oriented sophist<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The same can be said for the intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0686 Here is a picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide16-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide16-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7972\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide16-1.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide16-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0815 Indeed, in regards to the content-level normal context, my intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;confronts a sophisticated intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;in the arena that serves as&nbsp;<em>a forum for citizens making decisions<sub>3b<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0816 Is this an abusive relationship?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What chance does the citizen have?&nbsp;&nbsp;When the citizen speaks, he says&nbsp;<em>what is on his mind<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;He speaks&nbsp;<em>what he is thinking<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;When his opponent speaks, he says&nbsp;<em>what is necessary to achieve victory<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0807 After this rollout on&nbsp;the abuse of language,&nbsp;I return to&nbsp;the virtual nested form in the category of firstness. 0808 I summarize.
