For example, logic defines truth.&nbsp;&nbsp;Seduction characterizes beauty.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gorgias looks noble.&nbsp;&nbsp;Prudence describes the behavior of sophisticated winners.&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8220;Temperance&#8221; is a word that characterizes everyone who agrees with my argument.&nbsp;&nbsp;Everyone else is &#8220;intemperate&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0776 Does that sound like abuse of language?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a picture of&nbsp;<em>the virtual nested form in the category of firstness<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide07-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide07-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7957\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide07-1.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide07-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Debate over public policies takes place in a forum.&nbsp;&nbsp;The citizen level has two actors: citizens and sophists (representing whoever is paying them to argue).&nbsp;&nbsp;So, there are two wills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0777 The citizen does not fully comprehend that the sophist establishes a situation that emerges from (and situates) policy debates.&nbsp;&nbsp;That situation starts as soon as the sophist frames propositions<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;in such a manner as to support sophisticated values<sub>2b<\/sub>, which opens opportunities<sub>1c<\/sub>&nbsp;for public decisions<sub>2c<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does this sophisticated process include&nbsp;<em>the conditioning of transcendentals?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I suspect so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0778&nbsp;&nbsp;The meaning, presence and message underlying&nbsp;<em>a spoken word<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;that is supposed to represent a transcendental<\/em>may be manipulated<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;in such a fashion as to generate sophisticated values<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;for any particular debate.&nbsp;&nbsp;This occurs within the situation level, as the proposition is framed<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;as promoting sophisticated values<sub>2b<\/sub>, in the normal context of rhetorical debate<sub>3b<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;This is&nbsp;<em>what sophists do<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;They tell the citizen&nbsp;<em>what he wants to hear&nbsp;<\/em>while satisfying&nbsp;<em>the ambitions of those who are paying for his services<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Welcome to &#8220;our&#8221; democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0779&nbsp;<em>The opportunity<sub>1c<\/sub>&nbsp;for a decision<sub>2c<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;arises&nbsp;<em>when the boiling of the crudities of spoken words<sub>2b<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;is further refined by&nbsp;<em>the evaporation of the water, the matrix of debate<\/em>, thereby crystallizing&nbsp;<em>the words of the decision<sub>2c<\/sub>&nbsp;itself<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Reason<sub>3a,1a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;is&nbsp;<em>refined<sub>3c<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;in so far as&nbsp;<em>the very terminology that goes into the decision<sub>2c<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;<em>abuses the words framing the proposition<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;in favor of sophisticated values<sub>2b<\/sub>,<\/em>&nbsp;because&nbsp;<em>the implementation of a decision<sub>2a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;is not necessarily the perfection of&nbsp;<em>the decision itself<sub>2c<\/sub>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0780 You may ask yourself, &#8220;What the hell does that mean?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does it suggest that&nbsp;<em>crystalline sugar refined from some unfortunate plant<\/em>&nbsp;serves as a metaphor for&nbsp;<em>whatever the hell that means?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does it suggest that&nbsp;<em>the abuse of language<\/em>&nbsp;is, to&nbsp;<em>the realm of possibility,<\/em>&nbsp;what&nbsp;<em>the abuse of power<\/em>&nbsp;is to&nbsp;<em>the realm of normal contexts?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0781 Does it suggest the following?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide08-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide08-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7958\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide08-1.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide08-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Yeah, that looks abusive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0782 So, what does Plato have against the sophists?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as perfectionists<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;spoil perfection<sub>2a<\/sub>, sophists ruin the spoken words<sub>2a<\/sub>&nbsp;that they weave into sophisticated valuations<sub>2b<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0783 Let me start with&nbsp;<em>the perfection of spoken words<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spoken words do two things.&nbsp;&nbsp;They convey reality.&nbsp;&nbsp;They facilitate common understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, what is &#8220;reality&#8221;?&nbsp;&nbsp;What is &#8220;understanding&#8221;?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0784&nbsp;<em>Reality<\/em>&nbsp;is&nbsp;<em>the perfection of a spoken word<\/em>&nbsp;<em>in so far as the word indicates or images its referent<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Yes, spoken words are supposed to refer to a reality that can be pictured or pointed to.&nbsp;&nbsp;In effect, spoken words are supposed to accomplish&nbsp;<em>what hand-talk<\/em>&nbsp;(or sign language)&nbsp;<em>performs effortlessly<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Hand-talk words<\/em>&nbsp;are&nbsp;<em>holistic manual-brachial gestures<\/em>&nbsp;<em>that picture or point to their referents<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Speech-alone talk cannot picture or point to anything.&nbsp;&nbsp;However, we (humans) seem to innately anticipate that it does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0785 But, that does not mean it does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, let me put a pause on&nbsp;<em>reality<\/em>&nbsp;as&nbsp;<em>the perfection of a spoken word<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What about&nbsp;<em>understanding?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0786&nbsp;<em>Understanding<\/em>&nbsp;is&nbsp;<em>the perfection of spoken words in so far as understanding is<\/em>&nbsp;<em>the completion of a category-based nested form<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;I may encounter an actuality.&nbsp;&nbsp;But, I do not understand until I can frame the encountered actuality<sub>2<\/sub>&nbsp;with a normal context<sub>3<\/sub>&nbsp;and potential<sub>1<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0787 On top of that, I claim that there are three characteristics that go into a category-based nested form that allows me to define spoken words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meaning associates to&nbsp;<em>what I think<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Meaning also touches base with&nbsp;<em>reality or reference<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Message associates to&nbsp;<em>what I say<\/em>. Message also touches base with&nbsp;<em>my motivations, in regards to reality or reference<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So,&nbsp;<em>meaning<\/em>&nbsp;should be related to&nbsp;<em>message<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here,<em>&nbsp;meaning&nbsp;<\/em>is like&nbsp;<em>matter.<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Message<\/em>&nbsp;is like&nbsp;<em>form<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0789&nbsp;<em>Presence<\/em>&nbsp;associates to&nbsp;<em>me.<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>My intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;<\/em>contextualizes<em>&nbsp;my will<sub>1a<\/sub>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, in conversation, there are other intellects<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;and wills<sub>1a<\/sub>, so&nbsp;<em>the normal context and potential of understanding<\/em>&nbsp;is ambiguous.&nbsp;&nbsp;What about &#8220;our intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>&#8221; and &#8220;our will<sub>1a<\/sub>&#8220;?&nbsp;&nbsp;Does mean that there are others who are influencing me?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;So, does&nbsp;<em>a perfection of understanding<\/em>&nbsp;occur when I surrender &#8220;my&#8221; intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;and &#8220;my&#8221; will<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;to the reasoning<sub>3a,1a<\/sub>&nbsp;of others?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide09-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide09-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7959\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide09-1.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Slide09-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0790 These are interesting questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, I need to put a pause on&nbsp;<em>understanding<\/em>&nbsp;as&nbsp;<em>the perfection of a spoken word<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0774 What does Plato&#8230; er&#8230; Socrates hold against the sophists?
