0036 In chapter one, Fuller dwells upon the central term, “post-truth”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reason imposes chains on itself.  How so?  Well, knowledge gets formalized.  For example, what is worth knowing<\/em> is divided from what is not worth knowing<\/em>.  Well, then, what is worth knowing?  Formalized knowledge<\/em> is so much worth knowing<\/em> that it1b<\/sub> supports the awarding of credentials2b<\/sub> <\/em>by an educational institution3c<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0037 Back in the introduction, Fuller recalls Willard Quine’s insight. A knowledge claim that requires a massive change to the overall “web of belief” will be considered dubious until academically domesticated.  In other words, a novel notion that is true<\/em> will stand as just another opinion that is on offer on the content level<\/em> until academics make it their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This implies that a “web of belief” constitutes the expert level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Plus, the expert level situates the scrappy (or is it “crappy”?) player level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0039 Well, if formalizing knowledge1b<\/sub><\/em> domesticates a knowledge claim2a<\/sub> that might call for a massive cognitive change,<\/em>then the ‘something’1a<\/sub> that underlies opinions2a<\/sub><\/em> must be ‘something’ to be reckoned with<\/em>.  ‘Something’1a<\/sub> may be too creative to process.  ‘Something’1a<\/sub> may be too destructive.  Or, ‘something’1a<\/sub> may change the status quo<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0040 Look at the content-level nested form.  There are two aspects.  One associates to the normal context3a<\/sub>.  The other associates to potential1a<\/sub>.  Both aspects concern reason<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fuller offers a psychological formula.  Reason<\/em> equals intellect<\/em> plus will<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are these the two aspects?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If so, then<\/em> intellect3a<\/sub> is the normal context3a<\/sub><\/em> that chains the creative and destructive potential of the will1a<\/sub><\/em>.  The  actuality of facts and claims2a<\/sub><\/em> (that is, opinions2a<\/sub>) emerges from (and situates) the creative and destructive potential of the will1a<\/sub><\/em>, within the normal context of the intellect3a<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the perspective-level normal context is the relativist one3c<\/sub>, then this particular element becomes a safe-haven, outside of all traditional (credentialed) jurisdictions, yet holding all the metaphorical locks and keys to success.  All educational institutions3b<\/sub>, as well as all forums for discourse3b<\/sub>, are relative, according to the relativist one3c<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
