{"id":7682,"date":"2024-05-08T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-08T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=7682"},"modified":"2024-01-29T14:28:33","modified_gmt":"2024-01-29T14:28:33","slug":"looking-at-mariusz-tabaczeks-book-2021-divine-action-and-emergence-part-20-of-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=7682","title":{"rendered":"Looking at Mariusz Tabaczek&#8217;s Book (2021) &#8220;Divine Action and Emergence&#8221; (Part 20 of 22)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0313 Tabaczek recounts the works of Karl Krause (7581-7632 U0&#8242;), who transfers the positing of an Absolute Ego (or &#8220;I&#8221;) into the philosophy of science.&nbsp;&nbsp;Krauss writes about two centuries after Galileo (7364-7442) and a century after Isaac Newton (7442-7526) but before Charles Darwin (7609-7682) and James Clark Maxwell (7631-7679).&nbsp;&nbsp;Kant (7524-7604) is an older contemporary of Krause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0314 Krause wants science to have an&nbsp;<em>Absolute I<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;He calls the intuitive principle, &#8220;Orwesen&#8221;.&nbsp;&nbsp;This term can be loosely translated into English as &#8220;Or what?&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;To me, &#8220;Or what?&#8221; sounds far superior to &#8220;the god of all philosophers&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each scientific discipline serves a relative I, an explicit principle called, &#8220;Urwesen&#8221;, loosely translated as &#8220;That&#8217;s what&#8221;, which is easier to say than &#8220;My narrow specialized discipline is better than yours.&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;Also, &#8220;That&#8217;s what&#8221; sounds more tractable than &#8220;the god of all religions&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0315 Krause distinguishes&nbsp;<em>two movements to science<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;One is analytic-ascending.&nbsp;&nbsp;The other is synthetic-descending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No, don&#8217;t say &#8220;transcendent&#8221; or &#8220;immanent&#8221;!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those words are not scientific!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, I refer to the prior diagram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0316 On the ascending motion, if I associate&nbsp;<em>the subject of a scientific discipline<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;with&nbsp;<em>phenomena,<\/em>&nbsp;then&nbsp;<em>observations and measurements&nbsp;<\/em>may be labeled,<em>&nbsp;&#8220;objective<sub>1b<\/sub>&#8220;<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>the subsequent model<\/em>&nbsp;goes with &#8220;analytic<sub>1c<\/sub>&#8220;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This sequence may be confusing, especially when modernists use the word, &#8220;objective<sub>1c<\/sub>&#8221; instead of &#8220;analytic<sub>1c<\/sub>&#8220;.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The confusion is cemented in modern terminology, which defines &#8220;objective&#8221; as &#8220;irrespective of what any person thinks of it&#8221;, rather than &#8220;pertaining to sign-objects, as opposed to sign-vehicles&#8221;.&nbsp;&nbsp;Yes, sign-objects are &#8220;objective&#8221;, one way or the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the descending motion, if I associate&nbsp;<em>suprasubjective<sub>1c<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;(which would otherwise associate to God&#8217;s point of view) to&nbsp;<em>scientific disciplinary language<sub>1c<\/sub><\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Intersubjective<sub>1b<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;goes with&nbsp;<em>the operation of defining the meanings, presences and messages intrinsic to observations and measurements<sub>1b<\/sub><\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Without proper definitions, then researchers are not talking the same language. Finally, s<em>ynthesis<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;<\/em>goes with&nbsp;<em>the resulting model<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide121.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide121.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide121.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide121-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0317 What does this imply?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clearly, Krause operates on&nbsp;<em>the agent-science side of Tabaczek&#8217;s mirror<\/em>&nbsp;and constructs&nbsp;<em>an image<\/em>&nbsp;(say, a reflection at the bottom of the well of immanence)&nbsp;<em>that is supposed to belong to the&#8230; um&#8230; agent-theology side<\/em>&nbsp;(the transcendent Absolute I in the sky).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note, the words, &#8220;immanent&#8221; and &#8220;transcendent&#8221; do not appear in the previous paragraph, because this is all about science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0318 Let me start with God&#8230; and &#8220;nature&#8221;.&nbsp;&nbsp;Two centuries after Klause, I shall use the words, &#8220;model&#8221; and &#8220;noumenon&#8221;, the two illuminations in the Positivist&#8217;s judgment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For any given science,&nbsp;<em>the elaborate structure of the Positivist&#8217;s judgment<\/em>&nbsp;occupies the overlap&#8230;
