(Part 15 of 22)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0521 Well, the term, &#8220;third-person morality&#8221; is not&nbsp;<em>what it first appears to be<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide41-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide41-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide41-1.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide41-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It may be also be called, &#8220;third-category morality&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If&nbsp;<em>second-person morality<\/em>&nbsp;concerns&nbsp;<em>the rights and the wrongs<\/em>&nbsp;<em>that go into productivity<sub>2H<\/sub>&nbsp;and having fun<sub>2V<\/sub>,&nbsp;<\/em>in&nbsp;<em>the sensible constructions of team activities,<\/em>&nbsp;then&nbsp;<em>this third-person morality<\/em>&nbsp;must concern&nbsp;<em>the rights and wrongs that go into something more than productivity<sub>2H<\/sub>,<\/em>&nbsp;such as&nbsp;<em>an organizational objective<sub>2H<\/sub>,<\/em>&nbsp;and that go into&nbsp;<em>something more than having fun<sub>2V<\/sub>,<\/em>&nbsp;such as&nbsp;<em>the joy of being called<sub>2V<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<em>the satisfaction of a moral identity<sub>2V<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0522 The third-person of&nbsp;<em>third-person morality<\/em>&nbsp;is not a third individual, as depicted in Figure 4.1.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is&nbsp;<em>a person writ large,<\/em>&nbsp;belonging to Peirce&#8217;s category of thirdness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Third-person morality<sub>C<\/sub>&nbsp;brings the actuality of second-person morality<sub>B<\/sub>&nbsp;into relation with the potential of first-person morality<sub>A<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a picture of how&nbsp;<em>each hylomorphe<\/em>&nbsp;associates to&nbsp;<em>an element in the nested form<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide42-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide42-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide42-1.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide42-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0523 Now, I portray a the third-person morality of Figure 4.1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide43-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide43-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7434\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide43-1.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Slide43-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Does this look familiar?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each gray figure in the preceding cartoon, if released from the &#8220;you-me&#8221; relationship of the team (in blue) and the institutional relationship (in green), could easily return to a primal world of power<sub>2H<\/sub>&nbsp;and affiliation<sub>2V<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;To any person&nbsp;<em>in our current Lebenswelt,<\/em>&nbsp;this return would be experienced as&nbsp;<em>a nightmare beyond imagination<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The individuals in team-related &#8220;you-me&#8221; relations (the figures in gray) live in a world of productivity<sub>2H<\/sub>&nbsp;and having fun<sub>2V&nbsp;<\/sub>(the figures in blue).&nbsp;&nbsp;This is the sweet spot for many in&nbsp;<em>our current Lebenswelt<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;This is&nbsp;<em>a world of sensible construction<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Everything makes sense because spoken words refer to&nbsp;<em>things that can be pictured or pointed to<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, we all agree<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t we?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Sensical things<\/em>&nbsp;consist in&nbsp;<em>matter [substantiating] form<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Implicit abstractions are obvious.&nbsp;&nbsp;Explicit abstractions are technical.&nbsp;&nbsp;And yet,&nbsp;<em>the run-of-the-mill person<\/em>&nbsp;senses that, if there is no third-person,&nbsp;<em>our world of sensible construction<\/em>may be swamped by inner conflict or external threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, what is&nbsp;<em>a common person<\/em>&nbsp;to do in&nbsp;<em>our current Lebenswelt?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Join a congregation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Especially, join&nbsp;<em>a team<\/em>&nbsp;within that congregation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0524 Each green figure puts more than one &#8220;you-me&#8221; relation (blue figure) into perspective.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>A congregation<\/em>&nbsp;manifests&nbsp;<em>something more than productivity<sub>2H<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>something more than having fun<sub>2V<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A government agency does not.&nbsp;&nbsp;Government does&nbsp;<em>something less than productive<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>something less than having fun<\/em>.&nbsp;<em>Taxation<\/em>&nbsp;is not the same as&nbsp;<em>spontaneously sharing abundance<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Faith<\/em>&nbsp;is&nbsp;<em>the more than sweet spot<\/em>&nbsp;for many in&nbsp;<em>our current Lebenswelt<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Faith<\/em>&nbsp;is&nbsp;<em>a world of social construction<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet, faith faces a difficulty.&nbsp;&nbsp;Nothing makes sense, because spoken words refer to&nbsp;<em>things that cannot be pictured or pointed to<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Nonsensical things<\/em>&nbsp;consist in&nbsp;<em>being [substantiating] form<\/em>, which seems a lot like&nbsp;<em>matter [substantiating] form<\/em>, but who knows?&nbsp;&nbsp;Beings are relational structures, which may or may not entangle matter. So, beings can be&#8230; um&#8230; difficult to comprehend, yet seem real.&nbsp;&nbsp;Yes,&nbsp;<em>spoken words<\/em>&nbsp;can name&nbsp;<em>beings, that seem actual and support implicit abstractions<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>These implicit abstractions<\/em>&nbsp;then support&nbsp;<em>convictions<\/em>&nbsp;that resist analysis through&nbsp;<em>explicit abstraction<\/em>&nbsp;(using spoken words).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which is to say, spoken words can be misleading and slippery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And&#8230; what does that mean?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<em>our current Lebenswelt,<\/em>&nbsp;a snake resides in&nbsp;<em>the tree of the knowledge of good and evil<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0521 Well, the term, &#8220;third-person morality&#8221; is not&nbsp;what it first appears to be.
