A specifying sign-object<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;(SO<sub>s<\/sub>) induces an exemplar sign vehicle<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;(SV<sub>e<\/sub>).&nbsp;&nbsp;An exemplar sign-object<sub>2c<\/sub>&nbsp;(SO<sub>e<\/sub>) induces an interventional sign-vehicle<sub>2c<\/sub>&nbsp;(SI<sub>s<\/sub>) and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0142 When I consider each actuality as&nbsp;<em>a sign-object of one of the three signs,<\/em>&nbsp;I draw the following correlation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Slide22.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Slide22.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7159\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Slide22.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Slide22-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0143 The specifying sign comes first.&nbsp;&nbsp;The sign-object (SO<sub>s<\/sub>) is perception<sub>2b<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Perception<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;works on icons and indexes in nature as well as in hand talk.&nbsp;&nbsp;Icons and indexes are sensible signs in this regard.&nbsp;&nbsp;They have referents that exist in mind-independent reality,&nbsp;<em>ens reale<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0144 The exemplar sign comes next.&nbsp;&nbsp;The sign-object (SO<sub>e<\/sub>) is a judgment<sub>2c<\/sub>. Typically, this judgment brings an intelligible aspect of perception<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;(<em>what ought to be<\/em>) into&nbsp;<em>relation<\/em>&nbsp;with a universal aspect of sensation<sub>2a<\/sub>&nbsp;(<em>what is<\/em>).&nbsp;&nbsp;This judgment<sub>2c<\/sub>&nbsp;fits the message of the word, &#8220;rational&#8221;, because perception<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;and sensation<sub>2a<\/sub>&nbsp;are brought into balance (that is, into a ratio). In doing so, SO<sub>e<\/sub>&nbsp;embodies reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that I don&#8217;t use the term, &#8220;manifests&#8221;.&nbsp;&nbsp;I use the term, &#8220;embodies&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reason is built into our bodies and brains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0145 The interventional sign comes next.&nbsp;&nbsp;The sign-object (SO<sub>i<\/sub>) is a symbol, because its sign-vehicle (SV<sub>i<\/sub>) is a judgment and judgments are mind-dependent beings (<em>ens rationis<\/em>).&nbsp;&nbsp;This sign-object (SO<sub>i<\/sub>) is decoded into a specifying sign-vehicle (SV<sub>s<\/sub>).&nbsp;&nbsp;The specifying sign vehicle (SV<sub>s<\/sub>) will be situated as an icon or index (SO<sub>s<\/sub>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0146 Hand talk exemplifies hominin communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Tomasello&#8217;s argument on language<\/em>&nbsp;may be re-articulated using&nbsp;<em>Peircean triadic relations<\/em>, formulated as&nbsp;<em>the scholastic interscope of the way humans think<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>three interlocking sign-relations, consisting of the specifying, the exemplar and the interventional signs<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a picture of the result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Slide23.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Slide23.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Slide23.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Slide23-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0139 A brief recap is in order.
