sign-vehicle (SV<sub>s<\/sub>).&nbsp;&nbsp;The sign-object (SO<sub>s<\/sub>) says, &#8220;Let&#8217;s play!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0114 Here is the specifying sign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Slide12.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" sense&nbsp;<em>what is happening<sub>3a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<em>the potential of &#8216;something happening<sub>1a<\/sub>,<\/em>&nbsp;upon the occurrence of&nbsp;<em>the raised arm gesture<sub>2a<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can only conclude that&nbsp;<em>what is happening<sub>3a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>the potential of &#8216;something happening&#8217;<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;are&nbsp;<em>the sign-interpretant of another sign<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>the sign-object of that sign<\/em>&nbsp;is the raised arm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to imagine this,&nbsp;<em>a perspective-level actuality<sub>2c<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0116 Here is a picture, using&nbsp;<em>the scholastic three-level interscope<\/em>&nbsp;for how humans think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Slide13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Slide13.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7142\" (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0117 I don&#8217;t know whether scholastics have a formal causality for this sign-relation.&nbsp;&nbsp;But, I call it &#8220;the interventional sign&#8221;.&nbsp;&nbsp;The interventional sign is odd in so far as&nbsp;<em>the actuality of the sign-vehicle<sub>2c<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;is&nbsp;<em>mental<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>the actuality of the sign-object<sub>2a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;is&nbsp;<em>a gestural action<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It makes me wonder, is&nbsp;<em>the raised arm of a young, playful, chimpanzee<\/em>&nbsp;the sign-vehicle of the specifying sign or the sign-object of the interventional sign?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh, the answer is obvious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It<sub>2a<\/sub>&nbsp;must be both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the conclusion found in&nbsp;<em>Looking at Daniel Dennett&#8217;s Book (2017) &#8220;From Bacteria, To Bach and Back&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;in Razie Mah&#8217;s blog for December 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0118 Surely,&nbsp;<em>the intentionality<sub>2c<\/sub>&nbsp;of the arm raise<sub>2a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;is built into&nbsp;<em>the chimpanzee<\/em>&nbsp;as&nbsp;<em>a phenotypic trait<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surely,&nbsp;<em>the sign-interpretant (SI<sub>i<\/sub>) of the interventional sign<\/em>&nbsp;informs both chimpanzee youngsters&nbsp;<em>what is happening<sub>3a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>the potential of &#8216;something happening&#8217;<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0119 But, the intention is not to inform.&nbsp;&nbsp;The intention is to play<sub>2c<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consequently, there is&nbsp;<em>a qualitative difference<\/em>&nbsp;between&nbsp;<em>the example of the arm raise<sub>2a<\/sub>&nbsp;for the chimpanzee<\/em>&nbsp;(as a stand-in for the last common ancestor) and&nbsp;<em>the example of [SNAKE][THERE] of the early
