phenomena<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does this suggest that&nbsp;<em>the noumenon<\/em>&nbsp;can be safely ignored?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0157 The positivist intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;has a rule.&nbsp;&nbsp;Metaphysics is not allowed.&nbsp;&nbsp;Only instrumental and material causation may be discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0158 The empirio-schematic judgment<sub>2a<\/sub>&nbsp;has three elements:&nbsp;<em>relation,<\/em>&nbsp;<em>what ought to be<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>what is<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Each of these is assigned to one of Peirce&#8217;s three categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A specific disciplinary language (<em>relation,<\/em>&nbsp;thirdness) brings mathematical and mechanical models (<em>what ought to be,<\/em>secondness) into relation with observations and measurements of phenomena (<em>what is,<\/em>&nbsp;firstness).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0159&nbsp;<em>The potential of &#8230; phenomena<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;is really&nbsp;<em>the potential of the dyad,<\/em>&nbsp;<em>a noumenon [cannot be objectified as] its phenomena<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;From the point of view of the positivist intellect, observations and measurements concern&nbsp;<em>phenomena,<\/em>&nbsp;the observable and measurable facets of their&nbsp;<em>noumenon,<\/em>&nbsp;the thing itself.&nbsp;&nbsp;So, why worry about&nbsp;<em>the noumenon?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The noumenon is there because philosophers, such as Immanuel Kant, says that it must be there.&nbsp;&nbsp;Philosophy cannot ignore the thing itself<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;anymore than the positivist intellect<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;cannot ignore its observable and measurable facets<sub>1a<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0160 What does that mean in terms of the two-level interscope?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phenomena<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;are potentials that are directly situated by observations and measurements<sub>2a<\/sub>&nbsp;in the normal context of the positivist intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their noumenon<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;is virtually situated by a potential<sub>1<\/sub>&nbsp;belonging a category-based nested form on the situation<sub>b<\/sub>&nbsp;level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Slide67.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Slide67.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6834\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Slide67.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Slide67-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Figure 67<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, the situation-level potential<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;virtually situates the noumenon<sub>1a<\/sub>, just as the content-level actuality<sub>2a<\/sub>&nbsp;directly situates its phenomena<sub>1a<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0161&nbsp;<em>The practices of the natural sciences<\/em>&nbsp;compose&nbsp;<em>the content-level<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;If scientists have their way, their work focuses on instrumental and material causalities and ignores the objective world.&nbsp;&nbsp;Natural scientists are only interested in&nbsp;<em>empirio-schematic inquiry into their subject matter<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are not interested in&nbsp;<em>what it signifies<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet, some clever philosophers, responding to the birth and growth of science in the West, place a caveat that practicing natural scientists pragmatically ignore.&nbsp;&nbsp;But, no one else can ignore the noumenon<sub>1a<\/sub>, because it is a gateway to the objective world, the intersubjective world, and the commerce of intellectuals who try to figure out&nbsp;<em>what the thing itself means&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<em>what it can be used for<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0162 And, if Deely is correct, our objective world is real, even though it is filled with illusions, delusions, truths and revelations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Triadic relations are real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0163 As for the remainder of the situation-level nested form, consider the series of commentaries and articles titled,&nbsp;<em>Phenomenology and the Positivist Intellect,<\/em>&nbsp;by Razie Mah, available at smashwords and other e-book venues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0155 What does it mean to say that science cannot be situated.
