By Karl Menninger MD (1973) 8AD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Why did Menninger mention this particular sin?\u00a0 In a way, the answer addresses his foundational question, \u201cwhatever became of sin?\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The lie about the Lusitania was a sin.\u00a0 But so what?\u00a0 The lie was politically correct.<\/p>\n<p>On the horizontal axis, the \u201cdisposition\u201d that made this politically correct act possible was \u201cthe psychology of collusion\u201d. The legal system rewarded the ones who perpetrated this politically correct action.\u00a0 The law<sup>essential<\/sup> burdened the citizens with war.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas Sowell has pointed out in many of his writings that this \u2013 above all \u2013 accounts for the failure of the American experiment:\u00a0 Progressive politicians have not paid for the consequences of their politically correct (but sinful) actions.<\/p>\n<p>On the vertical axis, the conscience<sup>lacking<\/sup> of political \u201cself-anointedness\u201d (also see Thomas Sowell\u2019s works) made the politically correct deception possible.\u00a0 The think<sup>group<\/sup> of Progressive expertise put the deception into context.\u00a0 President Wilson and his highly educated cohorts were convinced that they could \u201csave democracy\u201d by autocratic means, such as willful deception and propaganda.<\/p>\n<p>The symbolic order that is Progressivism was already yielding social constructions one hundred years ago.\u00a0 Wilson came to power 40 years after Lincoln had defended the Union.\u00a0 Wilson was the servant of the subsequent Union-god, a god that would establish itself as sovereign without \u201cestablishing a religion\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In the same way, the air-god <em>Enlil<\/em>, ruled over Nippur through both palace and temple.\u00a0 There was no separation between state and church.\u00a0 <em>Enlil<\/em> defined the symbolic order, just as Wilson\u2019s Union-god does today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why did Menninger mention this particular sin?\u00a0 In a way, the answer addresses his foundational question, \u201cwhatever became of sin?\u201d.
