By Karl Menninger MD (1973) 8X"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What about \u201csins of envy, greed, avarice and affluence\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>Menninger threw a Progressive word into this set.\u00a0 Let us initially consider the first three items from a classic Christian perspective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe psychology of covetousness\u201d makes \u201csins of envy, greed and avarice\u201d possible.\u00a0 This psychology includes a \u201crodent\u201d-like fixation on the trappings of elite status; good looks, money, big homes, luxurious cars, important political positions, fancy clothes, an entourage, and so on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCovetousness\u201d is more than about \u201cpossessions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201csins of envy, greed and avarice\u201d range from shoplifting to the machinations of crony capitalism.<\/p>\n<p>The law<sup>essential<\/sup> for these sins typically includes disturbingly large jail time for petty crimes and equally disturbing minimal fines for major crimes.\u00a0 The iniquities inherent in the state administration of law<sup>essential<\/sup> play out in unspoken and unseen manners that may be even more punishing for the community than for the criminals.<\/p>\n<p>The law<sup>essential<\/sup> for the sins of envy, greed and avarice include the consequences of the sin itself.\u00a0 These sins degrade the person who commits them as well as everyone who empowers that person.\u00a0 This degradation does not come from God.\u00a0 They come from the sins themselves.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What about \u201csins of envy, greed, avarice and affluence\u201d?
