I finish my thoughts on Zimmerman\u2019s book by speculating on what \u201cBaptism for remission of sins\u201d might mean after An Archaeology of the Fall<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In a way, Augustine was correct.\u00a0 Humans have fallen from their natural state, where words were grounded in referentiality.\u00a0 Now, there is no solid earth beneath us.\u00a0 We are standing in mud.\u00a0 We are mud.<\/p>\n

If a person is anima<\/em> joined to caro<\/em> through the spiritual principle of gravity \u2013 er, descent \u2013 then one can say we land on water.\u00a0 Each of us land in a sea of symbolic orders, ever shifting, exclusive domains interpenetrating exclusive domains, each domain calling the person to swim in their waters.<\/p>\n

Baptism gets us onto a boat.\u00a0 Baptism is like learning to swim.\u00a0 Baptism is like finding land.\u00a0 These three metaphors constitute a \u201cremission of Original Sin\u201d because, without it, there is only disorientation.\u00a0 In a world without Jesus the Christ, who knows which way is up?<\/p>\n

All the universal religions tell \u2013 in their own way \u2013 which way is up.\u00a0 What makes Jesus unique is that he \u2013 himself – is the way up.\u00a0 The Christian tradition has always proclaimed this.\u00a0 For that reason, Jesus is problematic to all other symbolic orders.\u00a0 Jesus has his hand in the water, ready to pull you up.<\/p>\n

Of course, if there are only symbolic orders, then everything is relative.\u00a0 Not so. Symbolic orders inspire us to construct indexes and icons that build social constructions that are anything but relative.\u00a0 That is why the Progressives have worked to empty the courts, the legislatures, the executive suites, the media and the universities of anyone who is not Progressive.\u00a0 That is the only way to do what they were created to do:\u00a0 Control the destructive automatons.<\/p>\n

Do you think Progressivism is the way up?\u00a0 Of course you do.\u00a0 We all do. There are so many expressions, reasons, feelings, and intuitions for why this way is up.\u00a0 But these interlocking symbols are all only words.\u00a0 You will realize their meanings only when the social constructions are actualized.<\/p>\n

Will Baptism become tangible then?\u00a0\u00a0 Will we then need a hand to save us from drowning?\u00a0 Who knows?\u00a0 Ask a fatherless child.<\/p>\n

Of course, this is only speculation.\u00a0 Others, greater than me, will follow.<\/p>\n
