{"id":5899,"date":"2022-12-09T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-12-09T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=5899"},"modified":"2023-07-22T14:47:00","modified_gmt":"2023-07-22T14:47:00","slug":"a-primer-for-how-to-define-the-word-religion-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=5899","title":{"rendered":"\ufffcLooking at Razie Mah&#8217;s\u00a0\u00a0(2015) A Primer on an Infrasovereign Religion\u00a0\u00a0(Part 18 of 24)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0115 The eighth primer introduces&nbsp;<em>the concepts of infrasovereign and sovereign religions<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The nomenclature is ambiguous.&nbsp;&nbsp;Perhaps, one day, the ambiguity will be clarified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, remember, words are slippery beings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0116 Technically, infrasovereign religions are&nbsp;<em>institutions<sub>3aC<\/sub>&nbsp;that seek sovereign power<sub>3bC<\/sub>&nbsp;in order to achieve their organizational objects<sub>2aC<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Theoretically, all institutions<sub>3aC<\/sub>&nbsp;belong to the content<sub>a<\/sub>&nbsp;level of the society<sub>C<\/sub>&nbsp;tier.&nbsp;&nbsp;Every institution<sub>3aC<\/sub>&nbsp;stands below the sovereign<sub>3bC.<\/sub>&nbsp;&nbsp;Plus, some of these institutions<sub>3aC<\/sub>&nbsp;are obviously religious.&nbsp;&nbsp;But, they do not seek sovereign power<sub>3bC<\/sub>&nbsp;in order to implement their organizational objectives<sub>2aC<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Until, of course, they change their minds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Can a&nbsp;<em>not infrasovereign religion<sub>aC<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;become an<em>&nbsp;infrasovereign religion<\/em>&nbsp;merely by deciding to pursue sovereign power<sub>3bC<\/sub>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, plus,&nbsp;<em>an institution<sub>3aC<\/sub>&nbsp;that self-identifies as &#8220;not religious&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;may become&nbsp;<em>an infrasovereign religion<\/em>&nbsp;by pursuing sovereign power<sub>3bC<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, there is terminological ambiguity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0117 The Reformation (around 1500 to 1550 AD) consists of Christian factions, breaking away from a historical unity (the Catholic Church) filled with um&#8230; factions.&nbsp;&nbsp;The act of breaking away constitutes an organizational object<sub>2aC<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;So, break-away factions appeal to sovereign authorities<sub>3bC<\/sub>&nbsp;in order to establish laws<sub>2bC<\/sub>&nbsp;that allow the new order<sub>1bC<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;These factions gain the label, &#8220;religions&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0118 The Reformation shows that sovereign power<sub>3bC<\/sub>&nbsp;virtually situates institutions<sub>3aC<\/sub>, including the new factions<sub>3aC<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Plus, the new factions<sub>3aC<\/sub>&nbsp;(as well as the old factions<sub>3aC<\/sub>&nbsp;that do not break away) pursue sovereign power<sub>3bC<\/sub>in order to implement their organizational objectives<sub>2aC<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a picture of the first two levels of the society<sub>C<\/sub>&nbsp;tier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Slide38.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Slide38.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Slide38.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Slide38-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Figure 38<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0119 What does this imply?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Infrasovereign<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>sovereign religions<\/em>&nbsp;confound order<sub>1bC<\/sub>&nbsp;with righteousness<sub>1aC<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Religions that are not infrasovereign<\/em>&nbsp;do not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0120&nbsp;<em>Sovereign power<sub>3bC<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;allows an institution<sub>3aC<\/sub>&nbsp;to impose its object<sup>org<\/sup><sub>2aC<\/sub>&nbsp;as order<sub>1bC<\/sub>&nbsp;upon&nbsp;<em>those outside the institution<sub>3aC<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What does this lead to?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are&nbsp;<em>those outside the institution<sub>3aC<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;not righteous<sub>1aC<\/sub>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0121 America&#8217;s (il)liberal big government legal system (1950 to present) offers an example.\u00a0\u00a0The discussion is difficult, because\u00a0<em>the meanings of spoken words<\/em>\u00a0twist in\u00a0<em>the drama of an institution<sub>3aC<\/sub>&#8230; or rather, an infrasovereign religion<sub>3aC<\/sub>,&#8230; justifying its acquisition of legal authority<sub>2bC<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless,&nbsp;<em>the example in primer eight<\/em>&nbsp;raises a weirdly foundational question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is sexual orientation identical to race?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0122 The modern (il)liberal says &#8220;yes&#8221;, because both are genetically determined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Christian says &#8220;no&#8221;, because, on one hand, discrimination based on race is historically conditioned.&nbsp;&nbsp;American slavery and Jim Crow laws are extrinsic to the person.&nbsp;&nbsp;On the other hand, sexual orientation is personally conditioned.&nbsp;&nbsp;Homosexual activity involves personal choice.&nbsp;&nbsp;These choices are intrinsic to the person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0123&nbsp;<em>The clash of these two worldviews<\/em>&nbsp;provides&nbsp;<em>a frame for appreciating how both homosexual activists and Christian believers<\/em>&nbsp;operate as religions.&nbsp;&nbsp;The former is an infrasovereign religion.&nbsp;&nbsp;The latter is not.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0115 The eighth primer introduces&nbsp;the concepts of infrasovereign and sovereign religions.&nbsp;&nbsp;The nomenclature is ambiguous.&nbsp;&nbsp;Perhaps, one day, the ambiguity will be clarified.
