{"id":57,"date":"2012-12-14T01:00:20","date_gmt":"2012-12-14T01:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/75.103.96.165\/blog\/?p=57"},"modified":"2014-10-07T23:03:14","modified_gmt":"2014-10-07T23:03:14","slug":"thoughts-on-evolution-and-the-sin-in-eden-a-new-christian-synthesis-1998-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=57","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on Evolution and the Sin in Eden: A New Christian Synthesis (1998) 21"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tertullian (155-220 AD) had a clever idea that would fit the notion that Adam and Eve were the first <em>Homo sapiens<\/em> 200,000 years ago.\u00a0 (Zimmerman was not twisted enough to imagine this possibility, thank God.)<\/p>\n<p>Here is the set-up:\u00a0 Adam and Eve were the first parents.\u00a0 As such, they generated the potential for all the bodies <em>and the souls<\/em> of future humanity.\u00a0\u00a0 Both <em>caro<\/em> and <em>anima<\/em> were fallen.\u00a0 Both contain evil substances.<\/p>\n<p>What happens when this is put into the model of human nature as \u201c<em>amina<\/em> joined to <em>caro<\/em> by way of <em>spiritus<\/em>\u201d?\u00a0\u00a0 We can conjure \u201csexual intercourse\u201d as the spiritual principle whereby the fallen soul is inseminated into the fallen body.\u00a0\u00a0 Consequently, sex is pernicious.\u00a0 The very act is bathed in Original Sin.\u00a0 Evil substances are involved.\u00a0 The product is corrupt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Fall\u201d contaminates \u201cthe joining of <em>anima<\/em> to <em>caro<\/em>\u201d and makes material the immaterial principle &#8211; the <em>spiritus<\/em>.\u00a0 The <em>spiritus<\/em> becomes the principle of sexual intercourse in all its Thing-filled aspects \u2013 its monstrous carnality \u2013 its sublime overwhelming of the senses \u2013 its beautiful grossness.<\/p>\n<p>So what is the solution to be?<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the Christian tradition did not adopt Tertullian\u2019s views as definitive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tertullian (155-220 AD) had a clever idea that would fit the notion that Adam and Eve were the first Homo sapiens 200,000 years ago.\u00a0 (Zimmerman was not twisted enough to imagine this possibility, thank God.)
