{"id":5295,"date":"2022-04-06T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-06T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=5295"},"modified":"2022-04-28T20:09:08","modified_gmt":"2022-04-28T20:09:08","slug":"phenomenology-and-hermeneutics-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=5295","title":{"rendered":"Looking at John Perez Vargas, Johan Nieto Bravo and Juan Santamaria Rodriguez&#8217;s Essay (2020) &#8220;Hermeneutics and Phenomenology in&#8230; Social Sciences Research&#8221; (Part 16 of 18)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0058&nbsp;<em>Subtle intelligence, explanation and application<sub>2b<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;virtually situate&nbsp;<em>the content-level of hands-on social science<sub>3a<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These three forms, which may be labeled, &#8220;hermeneutical reduction<sub>2b<\/sub>&#8220;, acknowledge the conviction<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;that the phenomenologically elucidated noumenon<sub>1a(1b)<\/sub>&nbsp;is objectified by its phenomena<sub>1a<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem is the word, &#8220;subtle&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hermeneutical reduction<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;offends the attitude of the positivist intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;It<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;offends the social science positivist intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;even more, because it highlights the initial&nbsp;<em>metaphysical<\/em>&#8230; or shall I say&#8230;&nbsp;<em>alchemic<\/em>&nbsp;substitution of a mind-dependent being for a mind-independent entity.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>The noumenon<sub>1a(1b)<\/sub>&nbsp;of a social science<\/em>&nbsp;is intersubjective.&nbsp;&nbsp;Situation-level intersubjective beings<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;appeal to both the perspective<sub>c<\/sub>&nbsp;and content<sub>a<\/sub>&nbsp;levels of a three-level interscope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0059 Ah, alchemy is already in play in the social sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even before the articulation of phenomenology<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;by Edmund Husserl (1859-1938 AD), phenomenological reduction<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;is practiced by the nascent social sciences<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.&nbsp;&nbsp;Even after Husserl<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;proposes the methods of phenomenological reduction<sub>2b<\/sub>, most social scientists do not recognize it as foundational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Husserl&#8217;s project<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;disappears as soon as a social science<sub>2a<\/sub>&nbsp;is recognized as viable.&nbsp;&nbsp;By the time&nbsp;<em>a particular consensus<\/em>registers among&nbsp;<em>social scientists in general,<\/em>&nbsp;<em>the particular noumenon<sub>1a(1b)<\/sub>&nbsp;<\/em>already has&nbsp;<em>a specialized community<sub>3a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;devoted to&nbsp;<em>an empirio-schematic inquiry<sub>2a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<em>its phenomena<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The originating phenomenological reduction<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;has completed its task and no longer occupies the situation level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0060 What does this imply?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phenomenology<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;situates the natural empirical sciences<sub>2a<\/sub>, where the noumenon<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;is a mind-independent being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phenomenology<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;elucidates noumena<sub>1a(b)<\/sub>, whose phenomena<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;are studied by novel and social sciences<sub>3a<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;These noumena<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;are intersubjective beings<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;that are treated as if they are mind-independent beings<sub>1a<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;As such, these noumena<sub>1a(1b)<\/sub>&nbsp;[can be objectified as] their phenomena<sub>1a<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0061 How can phenomenology<sub>3b<\/sub>\u00a0be applied again to these second-order content-level hands-on sciences?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Can phenomenology<sub>3b<\/sub>\u00a0virtually situate its own creation<sub>3a<\/sub>?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0058&nbsp;Subtle intelligence, explanation and application2b&nbsp;virtually situate&nbsp;the content-level of hands-on social science3a.
