{"id":5281,"date":"2022-04-12T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-12T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=5281"},"modified":"2022-04-28T20:08:25","modified_gmt":"2022-04-28T20:08:25","slug":"phenomenology-and-hermeneutics-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=5281","title":{"rendered":"Looking at John Perez Vargas, Johan Nieto Bravo and Juan Santamaria Rodriguez&#8217;s Essay (2020) &#8220;Hermeneutics and Phenomenology in&#8230; Social Sciences Research&#8221; (Part 12 of 18)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0040 To date, one reverie and three commentaries, listed in the first blog in this series, propose propositions that ought to be tested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vargas Perez, Nieto Bravo and Santamaria Rodriguez, in the article entitled, &#8220;Hermeneutics and Phenomenology in Human and Social Science Research&#8221;, provide material to test the arguments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0041 Three tests have been considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0042 One, why is hermeneutics neglected in phenomenological inquiry?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer is that both hermeneutics and phenomenology are able to virtually situate natural (or &#8220;first-order&#8221;) science.&nbsp;&nbsp;But, hermeneutics is disallowed on the basis of the rule of the positivist intellect, outlawing metaphysics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0043 Two, what is the latent dilemma between hermeneutics and phenomenology?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer is that the situation-level normal context of Husserl&#8217;s project<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;elbows out the normal context of hermeneutics<sub>3a<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Such is the logic of normal contexts.&nbsp;&nbsp;The potential underlying Husserl&#8217;s paradigm<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;is a return<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;to the thing itself<sub>1a<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;This return may be formulated as&nbsp;<em>what the noumenon<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;must be<sub>1b<\/sub><\/em>, (that is, the noumenon<sub>1b<\/sub>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, the potential underlying hermeneutics<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;is interpretation<sub>1b<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0044 Three, what is the subject matter of phenomenology?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phenomenological reduction<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;elucidates a subjective being<sub>1b<\/sub>,&nbsp;<em>what the noumenon<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;must be<sub>1b<\/sub>,<\/em>&nbsp;capable of serving as an intersubjective being<sub>1b<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Intersubjective beings<sub>1b<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;are curious creatures, since they simultaneously appeal to a suprasubjective perspective-level realm (a God&#8217;s eye view) and a consensus-driven content-level (a human&#8217;s eye view).&nbsp;&nbsp;Thus, an intersubjective being<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;may appear to be mind independent, despite its mind dependence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phenomenological reduction<sub>2b<\/sub>&nbsp;succeeds when its noumenon<sub>1b<\/sub>&nbsp;is regarded as mind independent and enters the slot for the noumenon<sub>1a<\/sub>, thereby creating novel conditions where phenomena<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;can objectify their noumenon<sub>1a(1b)<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;A second-order social empirio-schematic inquiry<sub>2a<\/sub>&nbsp;follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0045 Once a social science takes off with a community of inquirers<sub>3a<\/sub>, the noumenon<sub>1a(1b)<\/sub>&nbsp;displays a life of its own.&nbsp;&nbsp;A new Positivist judgment unfolds.&nbsp;&nbsp;Husserl&#8217;s project is no longer capable of virtually situating this particular Positivist&#8217;s judgment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How so?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why is phenomenology<sub>3b<\/sub>&nbsp;needed when&nbsp;<em>a noumenon<sub>1a(1b)<\/sub>&nbsp;[can be objectified as] its phenomena<sub>1a<\/sub>?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/vnr-figure-09.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/vnr-figure-09.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5282\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/vnr-figure-09.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/vnr-figure-09-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Figure 09<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0040 To date, one reverie and three commentaries, listed in the first blog in this series, propose propositions that ought to be tested.
