{"id":4883,"date":"2021-04-13T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-13T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=4883"},"modified":"2022-05-07T23:31:10","modified_gmt":"2022-05-07T23:31:10","slug":"looking-at-jeff-hardins-essay-2019-biology-and-theological-anthropology-part-9-of-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=4883","title":{"rendered":"Looking at Jeff Hardin&#8217;s Essay (2019) &#8220;Biology and Theological Anthropology&#8221; (Part 9 of 15)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0048 What about&nbsp;<em>the transition to<\/em>&nbsp;<em>our current Lebenswelt?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is there a way that&nbsp;<em>theological anthropology<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>the anthropology of civilized folk<\/em>&nbsp;move together?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0049 Here is&nbsp;<em>an interpretation of the Bible<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The fact that all written origin stories of the ancient Near East point to a recent creation of humans<\/em>&nbsp;implies that the scribes and storytellers cannot see beyond a certain point in time, say 7821 years ago.&nbsp;&nbsp;Adam and Eve are fairy tale figures standing at&nbsp;<em>the portal of our current Lebenswelt<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0050 Here is a corresponding novel approach to evolutionary science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Our current Lebenswelt<\/em>&nbsp;is not&nbsp;<em>the Lebenswelt that we evolved in<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The transition is called&nbsp;<em>the first singularity<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The first singularity begins with&nbsp;<em>the appearance of the first speech-alone talking culture, the Ubaid of southern Mesopotamia<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;At this time, all other cultures practice hand-speech talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hand-speech talk?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speech is added to hand talk at the start of our own species,&nbsp;<em>Homo sapiens<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the time the first singularity initiates, hand-speech talk has been practiced for 200,000 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The transition from hand-speech talk to speech-alone talk<\/em>&nbsp;is simple.&nbsp;&nbsp;Drop the hand-component.&nbsp;&nbsp;But no-one ever thinks of doing so, since hand talk grounds words in the natural sign qualities of icons and indexes.&nbsp;&nbsp;Plus, humans have been enjoying hand-speech talk for countless generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0051 So how does the Ubaid culture do it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By accident.&nbsp;&nbsp;At the start of our current interglacial, the Persian Gulf is dry land, settled by two two unrelated hand-speech talking cultures, one land-loving Neolithic and one coast and river-loving Mesolithic.&nbsp;<em>A significant and rapid rise of the sea<\/em>&nbsp;marks&nbsp;<em>the start of our current interglacial<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Persian Gulf fills with water, pushing the two cultures together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cultures join into one.&nbsp;&nbsp;They develop a pidgin from the two very different languages.&nbsp;&nbsp;After a few generations, the pidgin turns into a fully linguistic creole.&nbsp;&nbsp;The hand-component of hand-speech talk is lost.&nbsp;&nbsp;Sumerian is the first speech-alone language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sumerian is a linguistic isolate.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is unrelated to any family of spoken languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0052&nbsp;<em>The semiotic qualities of speech-alone talk<\/em>&nbsp;are very different from&nbsp;<em>hand-speech talk<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hand-speech talk facilitates&nbsp;<em>constrained<\/em>&nbsp;social complexity.&nbsp;&nbsp;Speech-alone talk fosters&nbsp;<em>unconstrained&nbsp;<\/em>complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is the science in a nutshell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0053 Three series are devoted to&nbsp;<em>the first singularity<\/em>&nbsp;at the smashwords website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most direct is&nbsp;<em>Crystallizations of the Fall<\/em>, containing two articles:&nbsp;<em>The First Singularity and Its Fairy Tale Trace<\/em>, plus&nbsp;<em>Comments on Original Death and Original Sin: Romans 5:12-19<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Skeptical science types should start here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most accessible is\u00a0<em>A Course on An Archaeology of the Fall,<\/em>\u00a0containing the namesake masterwork and an instructor&#8217;s guide.\u00a0\u00a0Accompanying literature includes the early chapters of Genesis, chapter 5 of Paul&#8217;s letter to the Romans and Sura 5.\u00a0\u00a0This is the best path for students and teachers.\u00a0\u00a0This course is designed as a seminar.\u00a0\u00a0Read and discuss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Implications and further commentaries are located in the series\u00a0<em>Reverberations of the Fall<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0Theologians should consider this series first.\u00a0\u00a0Original sin is relevant, again.\u00a0\u00a0But, here, I am getting ahead of myself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0048 What about&nbsp;the transition to&nbsp;our current Lebenswelt?
