{"id":4880,"date":"2021-04-14T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-14T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=4880"},"modified":"2022-05-07T23:30:58","modified_gmt":"2022-05-07T23:30:58","slug":"looking-at-jeff-hardins-essay-2019-biology-and-theological-anthropology-part-8-of-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=4880","title":{"rendered":"Looking at Jeff Hardin&#8217;s Essay (2019) &#8220;Biology and Theological Anthropology&#8221; (Part 8 of 15)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0042 Jeff Hardin suggests that Biblical interpretation and scientific interpretation should move in tandem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three postmodern lines that bind them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They appear in the following diagram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/figure-07.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/figure-07.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4881\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/figure-07.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/figure-07-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0043 The three strands are&nbsp;<em>the Lebenswelt that we evolved in,<\/em>&nbsp;<em>our current Lebenswelt,<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>the transition between the two.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amazingly, this binding is already on display in three masterworks by Razie Mah&#8230; er&#8230; this commentator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How so?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I start with&nbsp;<em>the Lebenswelt that we evolved in<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0044 Here is an interpretation of the Bible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Creation Story<\/em>&nbsp;is&nbsp;<em>a sign of the evolutionary record<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Just as various Genesis days unfold and build on one another, the evolution of our planet evolves through ages.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>The construction of the tent of the heavens and the earth<\/em>&nbsp;is like a stained glass window looking out onto&nbsp;<em>the evolution of our world<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What does the Creation Story tell me about&nbsp;<em>what it is to be human?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only with the appearance of&nbsp;<em>the intention of man<\/em>&nbsp;does the spirit find&nbsp;<em>a home in the material world<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The human soul informs the human body.&nbsp;&nbsp;The human body substantiates the human soul.&nbsp;&nbsp;Our lineage comes into existence as&nbsp;<em>images of God<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0045 This describes&nbsp;<em>a noumenon<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;What about&nbsp;<em>its phenomena?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This noumenon<\/em>&nbsp;calls for&nbsp;<em>a new approach to evolutionary science<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fish have an ultimate niche:&nbsp;<em>the potential of water<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The birds have an ultimate niche:&nbsp;<em>the potential of air<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Water and air are&nbsp;<em>material actualities independent of the adapting species<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0046 What about our ancestors?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hominins have an ultimate niche:&nbsp;<em>the potential of triadic relations<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Triadic relations are real, yet immaterial.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are independent of the adapting species.&nbsp;&nbsp;Triadic relations cannot be reduced to material and instrumental causalities.&nbsp;&nbsp;Yet, they entangle them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Humans adapt into&nbsp;<em>the niche of triadic relations<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0047 This claim stands at the center of&nbsp;<em>A Course on the Human Niche,<\/em>&nbsp;which is available at smashwords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course begins with&nbsp;<em>A Primer on Natural Signs,<\/em>&nbsp;proceeds to&nbsp;<em>four commentaries on recent publications on human evolution,<\/em>&nbsp;then concludes with the masterwork,&nbsp;<em>The Human Niche<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This course is&nbsp;<em>a comprehensive alternative to current Positivist constructions<\/em>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<em>the Lebenswelt that we evolved in<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Theological anthropology [cannot be objectified as] biological anthropology,<\/em>&nbsp;but the two can move together.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0042 Jeff Hardin suggests that Biblical interpretation and scientific interpretation should move in tandem.
