So does the esse_ce and essence of the doctrine of original sin<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The myth Adam and Eve<\/em> is a fairy tale. Roman rule2<\/sub> is all about state power. State power maintains order1<\/sub>. Jewish legalism2<\/sub> is all about the routinization of righteousness1<\/sub>. Legalities2<\/sub>confer righteousness in the eyes of God1<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus Christ stands as the single actuality2<\/sub> containing Roman rule2<\/sub> and Jewish legalism2<\/sub><\/em>. This intersection<\/em> serves as the starting point for all political theology<\/em>. In Roman rule2<\/sub>, the state does not serve the people. In Christian political theology, it does. In Jewish legalism, the deed does not stand for the intention1<\/sub>. In Christian ethics, it does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus is the one who tames the two monsters of state and church<\/em>. One without the other<\/em> leads to catastrophe. Both without Jesus<\/em> leads to devastating conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 0090 In sum, political theology<\/em> transforms one of the mysteries of Jesus Christ<\/em> into a hylomorphism, a thing to be discussed and explored<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Here is a picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 0091 Myths are like pearls, expressing both esse_ce (being as existent) and essence<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Myths offer monsters to perceive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our perception of monsters<\/em> allows us to appreciate imbalances between esse_ce and essence<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 0075 The most horrifying monsters are articulated in the modern era. They are existence0<\/sup> (esse_ce without substance<\/em>) and form0<\/sup> (essence without substance<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n They are not confined to the modern era. Indeed, they have been here since the beginning. They include Roman rule2<\/sub>and Jewish legalism2<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The life and passion of Jesus Christ<\/em> takes on the characteristics of myth<\/em>. Jesus brings two historic monsters into a single actuality<\/em>. Jesus both contains and transcends these monsters. Jesus serves as their intersection. All roads lead through Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Political theology brings this mystery back into Aristotle’s hylomorphism. The mystery becomes a field of inquiry.
