Dwight Longenecker sets out on a quixotic quest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On first listening, he appears ready to deliver&nbsp;<em>insights in Jungian psyhcology and critical aesthetics<\/em>, as if these will imbue actuality into myths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On second thought, he touts his book on&nbsp;<em>who the magi actually are<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are not Persians.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are traders, located between Persia and Jerusalem.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are&nbsp;<em>in transit<\/em>&nbsp;<em>between both civilizations<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;He follows clues in the infant narratives.&nbsp;&nbsp;He examines archaeology.&nbsp;&nbsp;He looks at historical documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0007 What does this mean?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think of&nbsp;<em>a real historical event<\/em>&nbsp;as a grain of sand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think of&nbsp;<em>human psychology<\/em>&nbsp;as the maw of an oyster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The grain of sand<\/em>&nbsp;enters into&nbsp;<em>the maw of the oyster<\/em>&nbsp;and then, over time, something mysterious happens.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>The grain of sand<\/em>gives rise to&nbsp;<em>a pearl<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The pearl<\/em>&nbsp;is like&nbsp;<em>the myth<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0008 In sum, the continuum expressed in the previous blog will not suffice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two real elements<em>, the grain of sand<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>the pearl<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>The grain of sand<\/em>&nbsp;cannot be recognized within&nbsp;<em>the pearl<\/em>, but it stands as its origin.&nbsp;&nbsp;The two elements are contiguous, like matter and form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0009&nbsp;&nbsp;For Aristotle, matter and form are contiguous.&nbsp;&nbsp;The technical term is &#8220;hylomorphism&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a picture.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/longenecker-002.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4738\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/longenecker-002.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/longenecker-002-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption>Figure 02<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0010 For Charles Peirce, the category of secondness, the realm of actuality, consists in two contiguous real elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>An entire series of comments<\/em>&nbsp;are published in smashwords on&nbsp;<em>the proposal that Aristotle&#8217;s hylomorphism coincides with Peirce&#8217;s category of secondness<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;This is a portal to the&nbsp;<em>Fourth Age of Understanding<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>the Age of Triadic Relations<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One way to write&nbsp;<em>the contiguity between matter and form<\/em>&nbsp;is&nbsp;<em>matter [is contiguous with] form<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Matter and form are real elements.&nbsp;&nbsp;The contiguity is placed in brackets. The word, &#8220;substance&#8221;, labels the contiguity between matter and form.&nbsp;&nbsp;Or, should I say, &#8220;being and form&#8221;?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/longenecker-003.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4739\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/longenecker-003.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/longenecker-003-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption>Figure 03<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0011 There is a beauty in this configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two terms that scholastics used regularly.&nbsp;&nbsp;One is the Latin word,&nbsp;<em>esse<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Esse<\/em>&nbsp;is translated as&nbsp;<em>being as existent<\/em>, in contrast to&nbsp;<em>ens<\/em>, being as being.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Esse&nbsp;<\/em>concerns presence.
