Dwight Longenecker&#8217;s Podcast (2020) &#8220;Myths, Monsters and Mysteries&#8221; (Part 1)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0001 Why would&nbsp;<em>a Catholic priest<\/em>&nbsp;podcast on&nbsp;<em>the topics of myths, monsters and mysteries?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are these actualities somehow related?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps, they are nested.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mysteries are locked within monsters.&nbsp;&nbsp;Monsters are contained in myths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The outside is myth, the middle has monsters, and the center holds mysteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to nesting, the title tells a story. A story has a beginning, middle and end. This podcast title opens with myths, proceeds to monsters, then resolves in mysteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two approaches complement one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0002 Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each word in the title labels an actuality.&nbsp;&nbsp;These actualities fit into one another.&nbsp;&nbsp;These three actualities tell a story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0003 Our world is full of stories.&nbsp;&nbsp;Some are fantasies.&nbsp;&nbsp;Some are histories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fantasies have no foundation in real human events.&nbsp;&nbsp;So, the story is not real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Histories are founded in real human events, but often the story is incoherent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Myths seem to blend these two poles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fantasies illuminate&nbsp;<em>how we (humans) think<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;For myths, Jungian psychologists investigate this particular topic, revealing universal mental habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Histories tell of&nbsp;<em>what happened<\/em>, by connecting various evidentiary dots or exploring clues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The magic of myth is simple.&nbsp;&nbsp;It holds historic dots and clues within itself, long after&nbsp;<em>what happened<\/em>&nbsp;has passed into the mists of time.&nbsp;&nbsp;Myths are repeated with such accuracy, that dots and clues may remain for centuries, even millenia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consequently, there is no coherent discipline investigating how myths address&nbsp;<em>something that actually occurred<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0004&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Can I say that all stories contain clues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These clues reveal&nbsp;<em>something<\/em>&nbsp;real.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;On one hand, this&nbsp;<em>something<\/em>&nbsp;pertains to human psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, this&nbsp;<em>something<\/em>&nbsp;includes human witness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0005 Are these poles to a continuum?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is how that might look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/longenecker-001.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4735\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/longenecker-001.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/longenecker-001-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption>Figure 01<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0001 Why would&nbsp;a Catholic priest&nbsp;podcast on&nbsp;the topics of myths, monsters and mysteries?
