{"id":434,"date":"2013-05-30T03:13:38","date_gmt":"2013-05-30T03:13:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/75.103.96.165\/blog\/?p=434"},"modified":"2014-10-07T23:02:22","modified_gmt":"2014-10-07T23:02:22","slug":"thoughts-on-sin-by-ted-peters-1994-self-justification-6i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=434","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on Sin by Ted Peters (1994) Self-Justification 6I"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At this point, we have learned that concupiscence defines itself in the context of justification<sup>self<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, perhaps because we can step back and observe \u201cwhat we have done\u201d with our justification<sup>self<\/sup>(concupiscence()), there is a sense that our self-serving words and impulsive actions are somehow \u201coutside ourselves\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>I now return to Peters text: Chapter 6 of Sin: Self-Justification: Looking Good While Scapegoating Others.<\/p>\n<p>Peters told several stories that recall the essence of these lessons.\u00a0 In each case, the justification<sup>self<\/sup> came from the outside, or at least seemed to, and empowered the person to do follow her concupiscent desires.<\/p>\n<p>Peters\u2019 stories tell us that justification<sup>self<\/sup> can even adopt the symbols of justification<sup>divine<\/sup>, in order to steal the goodness of God for ourselves.\u00a0 Perhaps, instead of \u201cgoodness\u201d, Peters should have written \u201crighteousness\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Peters mentioned a book by Jack Katz (<em>Seductions of Crime<\/em>, 1988) which argued that, after a humiliation, justification<sup>self<\/sup>(concupiscence()) can escalate into righteous rage and violence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At this point, we have learned that concupiscence defines itself in the context of justificationself.
