{"id":424,"date":"2013-05-23T03:09:20","date_gmt":"2013-05-23T03:09:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/75.103.96.165\/blog\/?p=424"},"modified":"2014-10-07T23:02:22","modified_gmt":"2014-10-07T23:02:22","slug":"thoughts-on-sin-by-ted-peters-1994-self-justification-6d","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=424","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on Sin by Ted Peters (1994) Self-Justification 6D"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Let me review:<\/p>\n<p>Concupiscence is saying \u201cyes\u201d when we should say \u201cno\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Concupiscence encompasses actuality(potential).\u00a0 It parallels anxiety(faith<sup>UnChristian<\/sup>) on the plane of \u201cdoing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Concupiscence is a \u201cstate of being(\u201cwith Cupid\u201d).\u00a0 Technically, it substitutes finite ends for transcendent ends.\u00a0 Practically, it makes finite ends feel as if they were transcendent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAddiction\u201d goes with \u201cconcupiscence\u201d.\u00a0 There are two types of addictions.\u00a0 One corresponds to the body.\u00a0 St. Augustine\u2019s addiction to sexual pleasure might be an example.\u00a0 One corresponds to the soul.\u00a0 Pelagius\u2019 addiction to \u201cspiritual perfection\u201d might be an example.\u00a0\u00a0 Both addictions emerge from the lower plane of pride(anxiety(faith<sup>UnChristian<\/sup>)).<\/p>\n<p>Concupiscence has the quality of \u201cbeing imprisoned by a power that is outside ourselves\u201d, \u201cbeing a puppet controlled by demonic puppeteers\u201d, and so on.\u00a0 One of the functions of grace is to help open the jailhouse door or to help cut the strings.\u00a0 That typically does not happen unless somehow \u2013 at some level of conscious or unconscious awareness \u2013 the person admits that there is no way out.<\/p>\n<p>Justification<sup>self<\/sup> puts concupiscence into context.<\/p>\n<p>Justification<sup>self<\/sup> entails \u201clying to ourselves\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Justification<sup>self<\/sup> has the character of an \u201cindependent voice outside ourselves\u201d that \u201cvalidates what we \u2013 at some level \u2013 already know\u201d even though we may only be \u201ctalking to ourselves\u201d.\u00a0 This is precisely the character of the serpent in the Genesis Story of Adam and Eve, especially when we interpret the serpent to be a projection of Eve\u2019s unconscious thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>To me, this idea of justification<sup>self<\/sup> \u201coutside ourselves\u201d is a fascinating interpretation of the Genesis text.<\/p>\n<p>This is the topic of the next few blogs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let me review: Concupiscence is saying \u201cyes\u201d when we should say \u201cno\u201d.
