{"id":375,"date":"2013-04-25T01:59:04","date_gmt":"2013-04-25T01:59:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/75.103.96.165\/blog\/?p=375"},"modified":"2014-10-07T23:02:38","modified_gmt":"2014-10-07T23:02:38","slug":"thoughts-on-sin-by-ted-peters-1994-pride-4g","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=375","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on Sin by Ted Peters (1994) Pride 4G"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pride includes the feeling that \u201cwe\u201d can create a \u201ctribe\u201d by \u201cdefinition\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Classic American historical cases of pride-filled \u201cbelonging to a tribe by definition\u201d revolve around defining what the member is not.\u00a0 For example, I am not a black man.\u00a0 I am not a woman.\u00a0 I am not a homosexual.\u00a0 These definitions put Negroes, women and homosexuals outside \u201cthe tribe\u201d and subject to emotions reserved for \u201cpeople who do not belong to our tribe\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Today, such cases would be called \u201cracism\u201d, \u201csexism\u201d and \u201chomophobia\u201d by other \u201ctribes by definition\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, these latter-day \u201ctribes by definition\u201d fear the one \u201ctribe that just wants to be left alone\u201d: southern Baptists.<\/p>\n<p>All branches of Progressivism feel that southern Baptists are \u201cpeople who do not belong to our tribe\u201d.\u00a0 But at the same time, it is not enough to say: \u201cI am not a southern Baptist\u201d.\u00a0 But it almost is.<\/p>\n<p>This brings me back to the old timey pride of \u201cnot being one of those unfortunate creatures\u201d.\u00a0 That old timey pride is gone.\u00a0 Why were the racist and homophobic patriarchs able to change?\u00a0 They were able to change because they had dual identities.\u00a0 They were oppressors.\u00a0 But they were also Christians.\u00a0 As Christians, they could repudiate the sins of their old timey pride.\u00a0 They repented. They asked God for forgiveness. \u00a0They were made whole.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the newly constituted \u201ctribes by definition\u201d have to insist that these folk never changed.\u00a0 They must claim that these folk are unrepentant.\u00a0 These tribes preserve \u201cthe sins of old timey pride\u201d in their Museums of Perpetual Grievances.\u00a0 They are constantly on the lookout for fluke instances that they can display (see Ann Coulter in this regard).<\/p>\n<p>Thus, pride leads to escalation, not repentance.\u00a0 The Progressives do not suffer the vulnerability of a dual identity.\u00a0 They are not Christian.<\/p>\n<p>So one wonders, can they repent of the sins of their own group excesses?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pride includes the feeling that \u201cwe\u201d can create a \u201ctribe\u201d by \u201cdefinition\u201d.
