{"id":334,"date":"2013-04-01T01:30:27","date_gmt":"2013-04-01T01:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/75.103.96.165\/blog\/?p=334"},"modified":"2014-10-07T23:02:38","modified_gmt":"2014-10-07T23:02:38","slug":"thoughts-on-sin-by-ted-peters-1994-unfaith-3e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=334","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on Sin by Ted Peters (1994) Unfaith 3E"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From a theological point of view, the babe has a soul that is bound to her body through some principle.\u00a0 Somehow, this parallels the way that I am bound to my anxiety through my <em>xiety<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>After its creation, the soul, in a way, has no life of its own but can have any life.\u00a0 The potential of the soul is infinite.\u00a0 At the end of the person\u2019s life, the soul has a life of her own and can pretend to have another life (as ghost or as in \u201cpossession\u201d), but it cannot \u201clive the life it could have had\u201d.\u00a0 The potential of the soul has been realized.<\/p>\n<p>This, I sense, matches Jung\u2019s cryptotheological psychoanalytical term: \u201cindividuation\u201d.\u00a0 Individuation is the principle by which the soul fulfills its potential.<\/p>\n<p>Like <em>xiety<\/em>, the \u201cthis individuating principle\u201d exists in the realm of possibility, accounts for the actualities of human behavior, and is bound to the real.<\/p>\n<p>For <em>xiety<\/em>, the Lebenswelt is real. \u00a0For the principle, the binding is real.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe soul\u201d and \u201cthe principle binding soul to body\u201d are ancient formulations that led to philosophical controversy.\u00a0\u00a0 In fact, these formulations produced the first controversy that set (what later would be called) Christians on the path to articulating the Doctrine of Original Sin: What is this \u201cprinciple, mechanism or whatever\u201d that binds the soul to the body?<\/p>\n<p>Today, we face a parallel question, what is the <em>xiety<\/em> that bind me to my anxiety?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From a theological point of view, the babe has a soul that is bound to her body through some principle.\u00a0 Somehow, this parallels the way that I am bound to my anxiety through my xiety.
