{"id":305,"date":"2013-03-14T01:16:36","date_gmt":"2013-03-14T01:16:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/75.103.96.165\/blog\/?p=305"},"modified":"2014-10-07T23:02:39","modified_gmt":"2014-10-07T23:02:39","slug":"thoughts-on-sin-by-ted-peters-1994-introduction-1a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=305","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on Sin by Ted Peters (1994)  Introduction 1A"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the book jacket, at the time of writing, Dr. Ted Peters was a Professor at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and the Graduate Theological Union in Northern California.\u00a0 18 years have gone by since publication.<\/p>\n<p>The complete title of his book is <em>Sin: Radical Evil in Soul and Society<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This book on radical evil started as an afterthought while promoting his earlier book on New Age Movements, entitled <em>The Cosmic Self <\/em>(1989).<\/p>\n<p>Peters noticed that people kept asking him about Satanism.<\/p>\n<p>New Age Movements became popular from the 1970s on \u2013 especially in California \u2013 because the charisma of Christianity appeared to be inadequate.\u00a0 From the point of view of Reason, Jesus and Moses were pure myth.\u00a0 From the point of view of Resistance, Catholics and Baptists were full of hang-ups.<\/p>\n<p>The experts had appointed themselves to solve all these problems.\u00a0 And from any point of view from the Inside, no Christian leader wanted to risk addressing the symbolic and conceptual void that seemed to be filling the Churches.\u00a0 Reason and Resistance were so captivating.<\/p>\n<p>Little did anyone imagine that, by 1994, a new religion \u2013 really, a \u201ccryptoreligion\u201d \u2013 Progressivism \u2013 had already constituted itself by regulatory capture (infiltration and take-over) of all types of secular institutions, especially those of the sovereign (central state), but including the broadcast media and local education.<\/p>\n<p>Both the New Age Movements (clarifying magic) and Satanic cults (occluding magic) shared this in common:\u00a0 They were intensely personal.\u00a0 They were cultic.\u00a0 They were private religions.\u00a0 They were not \u201cpublic\u201d religions in the same way that Judaism and the Christianities were.<\/p>\n<p>In short, New Age Movements were the private complement to the Public cryptoReligion of Progressivism.\u00a0 \u201cProgressivism\u201d denied that it was a religion, even as it re-defined the meanings of \u201clife\u201d, \u201cliberty\u201d, \u201chappiness\u201d, \u201cfairness\u201d, \u201csacrifice\u201d, \u201crevenues\u201d, \u201cbudgets\u201d, \u201cliberal\u201d and \u201cconservative\u201d.\u00a0 What word has been untouched by the cryptoReligion and its minions?<\/p>\n<p>Peters did not hear the question that people were undoubtedly asking: Was there not a dark, occluding monolithic side to the proliferating private clubs of \u201cclarifying magic\u201d that marked the New Age Movement?\u00a0 Yes, it was the Leviathan.\u00a0 But, that answer was ruled out by definition.\u00a0 The Central State, the new American Sovereign, \u201cProgressivism\u201d was precisely not religious.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, this good Lutheran did hear \u201csomething\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 He heard that people were concerned about Satan in an age when the word \u201csin\u201d was no longer spoken in polite \u2013 I mean, politic \u2013 discourse.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote a grant.\u00a0 He got a research assistant.\u00a0 And she wrote this book.\u00a0 Thank you, Lisa Stenmark.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to the book jacket, at the time of writing, Dr. Ted Peters was a Professor at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and the Graduate Theological Union in Northern California.\u00a0 18 years have gone by since publication.
