One would imagine this state to be a state of grace.<\/p>\n<p>But, consider 1 John 4:20. If anyone says, \u2018I love God\u2019, yet hates his brother, he is a liar. He who does not love his brother <em>whom he has seen<\/em> cannot love God <em>whom he has not seen<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, the axis of recognition is visible. The person proclaims \u201chis\u201d recognition of \u201chis\u201d love for God.<\/p>\n<p>The axis of participation is more hidden. The person (secretly) hates \u201chis\u201d brother.<\/p>\n<p>What is the theological twist in 1 John 4:20?<\/p>\n<p>Observe.
