{"id":151,"date":"2013-02-01T01:12:49","date_gmt":"2013-02-01T01:12:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/75.103.96.165\/blog\/?p=151"},"modified":"2014-10-07T23:02:56","modified_gmt":"2014-10-07T23:02:56","slug":"thoughts-on-original-sin-by-tatha-wiley-2002-4n","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=151","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on Original Sin by Tatha Wiley (2002) 4N"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Luther\u2019s variation makes sense because \u2013 after the loss of the Paleolithic Lebenswelt, there is no turning back.\u00a0 An intellect and will honed by evolution within the framework of hand-talk \u2013 where words mean what they refer to \u2013 now operates in the framework of speech-alone talk \u2013 where reference comes from the placement of the word in a system of differences.\u00a0 Now, reference is always constructed.\u00a0 Yet, we feel that words refer to what already exists.\u00a0 From this perspective, our intellect and will are \u201cmechanically\u201d flawed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConcupiscence\u201d consists in \u201cacts of unbelief\u201d (in a sinful world constructed on symbolic orders of our own choosing) situating \u201chuman faculties that are \u2018of nature\u2019\u201d (that have no clue because they are constantly operating as if the Lebenswelt of hand-speech talk were still pertinent).<\/p>\n<p>In short, humanity is totally depraved.<\/p>\n<p>We are always trying to turn back, to recapture the Lebenswelt in which we evolved, by formulating systems that will allows us to \u201cBe Born Again\u201d.\u00a0 These formulations offer the promise of a return to a world where we all belong, where we all believe, where uncertainty and risk is shared by all, where each gets according to her needs, where each gives according to her abilities, where each person knows what to do and why she is here, where everyone\u2019s voice has importance, where differences are perceived as commonalities, and so on and so on.<\/p>\n<p>Does that not sound modern?<\/p>\n<p>Luther\u2019s descriptions Original Sin, to me, amazingly capture the \u201csensibilities\u201d of modern ideologues.\u00a0 Some of these ideologues did not grasp for sovereign power, forming communities that were separatist and later, trapped in the time in which they were formed, like the Amish and the Hippies.\u00a0 Some of these ideologues grasped for sovereign power, in order to facilitate the Baptism &#8211; the Baptism of Blood \u2013 of the new social order.<\/p>\n<p>The modern era encompasses the invention of new ways of talking.\u00a0 As a result, almost all cultures and civilizations have been Born Again, either by withdrawal or by blood. \u00a0\u00a0In this way, Modernism itself re-enacts this weird parallel between the transition to speech-alone talk and the concept of Original Sin.<\/p>\n<p>Luther\u2019s definitions even capture the topsy turvy character of Modernity .\u00a0\u00a0 For example, the idea of \u201cacts of unbelief\u201d has mutated into \u201cacts of exploitation\u201d among other variations.<\/p>\n<p>Various Modernisms detached Luther\u2019s variation of Original Sin from its moorings in Christianity and, in doing so, literally brought his definitions to life.\u00a0 All aspects of his formalism have been re-interpreted in vain attempts to return to the Source.<\/p>\n<p>Luther\u2019s variation on Original Sin was:<\/p>\n<p>Need to be Born Again(acts of unbelief(flawed faculties \u201cof nature\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>Modernism converted this to, among other variants:<\/p>\n<p>Need for Proletarians to Unite so Society may be Born Again(acts of exploitation(flawed nature of the exploitative bourgeoisie)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Luther\u2019s variation makes sense because \u2013 after the loss of the Paleolithic Lebenswelt, there is no turning back.\u00a0 An intellect and will honed by evolution within the framework of hand-talk \u2013 where words mean what they refer to \u2013 now operates in the framework of speech-alone talk \u2013 where reference comes from the placement of [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-151","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-the-science-of-original-sin"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.9 -
