[To me, this dynamic provides an adequate description of the idea of \u201cgolden calf\u201d that complements Rene Girard\u2019s concept of \u201cscapegoat\u201d.<\/p>\n
Mimetic Rivalry lies at the heart of the drama of the scapegoat. Acquisitive mimesis describes the pursuit of sovereign power by infrasovereign religions.\u00a0 Each has organizational goals that they want promulgated as law.\u00a0 None can achieve power alone.\u00a0 Coalitions form.<\/p>\n
Once sovereign power falls within the grasp of any coalition of infrasovereign religions, conflictual mimesis begins, where the \u201cParties of Pro-Objects\u201d contest all others by branding them \u201canti-objects\u201d.\u00a0 Every other institution, transcendent or mundane, becomes a potential enemy.\u00a0 The fundamental transformation of Society begins.<\/p>\n
