{"id":1219,"date":"2014-06-24T01:45:10","date_gmt":"2014-06-24T01:45:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=1219"},"modified":"2014-10-07T23:01:00","modified_gmt":"2014-10-07T23:01:00","slug":"man-and-sin-by-piet-schoonenberg-1964-1-5o","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=1219","title":{"rendered":"Man and Sin by Piet Schoonenberg (1964) 1.5O"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Summary of text [comment] page 31<\/p>\n<p>[So let me add the concept of &#8220;free will&#8221; to both examples.<\/p>\n<p>In the first, the surgeon knows that something is wrong, but avoids corrective actions.<\/p>\n<p>In the second, the medical professional knew that it was the wrong patient and still performed the operation.<\/p>\n<p>Are both cases equivalent to mortal sin?<\/p>\n<p>Here, we must confront the notion of \u201cfreedom\u201d.\u00a0 Freedom reflects the professional\u2019s relation to think<sup>divine<\/sup> (noting, here, that for medical practitioners, think<sup>group<\/sup> was formulated explicitly to complement and reinforce think<sup>divine<\/sup>).<\/p>\n<p>A surgeon may avoid corrective action in order to solve an even more critical issue.\u00a0 Similarly, the \u201cwrong patient\u201d may need the operation but not have insurance.<\/p>\n<p>In both cases, the surgeon breaks the rules in order to achieve a goal.\u00a0 So these are not sins at all.\u00a0 Are they?<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the will must be added to knowledge of circumstances in the consideration of venial and mortal sins.<\/p>\n<p>To me, it seems that free will and knowledge, not the objective results, constitute &#8220;gravity&#8221;.]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary of text [comment] page 31 [So let me add the concept of &#8220;free will&#8221; to both examples.
