{"id":117,"date":"2013-01-15T01:55:11","date_gmt":"2013-01-15T01:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/75.103.96.165\/blog\/?p=117"},"modified":"2014-10-07T23:02:56","modified_gmt":"2014-10-07T23:02:56","slug":"thoughts-on-original-sin-by-tatha-wiley-2002-4a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=117","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on Original Sin by Tatha Wiley (2002) 4A"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the 1100 years between Augustine and the Council of Trent, the Idea of Original Sin both changed and stayed the same.\u00a0 Chapter 4 covers some highlights.<\/p>\n<p>Augustine wrote at the time when the Roman Empire (now officially converted to Christianity but still very much in the ancient Pagan milieu) was decentralizing.<\/p>\n<p>Anselm, writing in England around 600 years later, wrote at a time when the Roman world was remembered through fantasy, legend and ideal.<\/p>\n<p>Augustine wanted to protect Christianity from a host of Pagan assimilators.<\/p>\n<p>Anselm just wanted to make sense of this concept of Original Sin.<\/p>\n<p>The once Pagan concept of a hierarchy of natures had been internalized.\u00a0 Human faculties, powers and capacities ranged from digestive to visionary.\u00a0 At the low end, human natures were \u201cmaterial\u201d or \u201cof nature\u201d.\u00a0 At the high end, human natures were \u201cnot material\u201d or \u201cof spirit\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The intellect and the will were faculties \u201cof nature\u201d.\u00a0 The \u201ccapacity for justice\u201d on the other hand, was \u201cof spirit\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the 1100 years between Augustine and the Council of Trent, the Idea of Original Sin both changed and stayed the same.\u00a0 Chapter 4 covers some highlights.
