Basak&#8217;s Book (2025) &#8220;Sumerian Mythology&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 (Part 9 of 20)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0109 The only spot that does not contain the label for a god is the potential<sub>1<\/sub> underlying Enlil<sub>3<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otherwise, there is a god labeling every slot of a fully differentiated godhead.&nbsp; How many generations does it take to reach this level of inferential expression?&nbsp; That is a good question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, here is <em>a diagram of the fully differentiated godhead,<\/em> containing the original members of the divine council, called the &#8220;Anunnaki&#8221; by the Akkadians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Slide19-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Slide19-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11029\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Slide19-1.png 540w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Slide19-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0110 <em>The three big name gods<\/em> are in green.&nbsp; <em>The remaining four lesser name gods<\/em> are in blue-green.&nbsp; Notably, Ki<sub>3<\/sub> and Ereshlugal<sub>2<\/sub> are out of the Anunnaki club.&nbsp; Ki<sub>3<\/sub>&#8216;s appears to hybridize with Ninhursag<sub>2<\/sub> within the name of Ninmah<sub>3(2)<\/sub>.&nbsp; Ereshlugal<sub>2<\/sub> eventually becomes queen of the underworld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0111 Are there any clues that support these associations?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0112 Let me first look for a clue in the heavens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0113 I asked google-based AI to search for an article about the Sumerian gods and celestial beings.&nbsp; It came up with a work by Enn Kasak and Raul Veede titled &#8220;Understanding Planets in Ancient Mesopotamia&#8221;.&nbsp; The article appears in the electronic journal, Folklore (vol. 26 (2001) doi: 10.7592\/FEJF2001.16.planets).&nbsp; The search software even offered an AI summary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Planetary assignments are not always clear, since the systematic observations of the heavens is not standardized among the competing city-states for the longest time.&nbsp; Also, associations change over time.&nbsp; Some planets are very apparent to the naked eye (Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter) and some are less so (Saturn).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0114 Kasak and Veede offer a Table 2 that is geared to the Sumerian period from 3500 to 2300 BC.&nbsp; My reproduction of the table is not accurate, in so far as I substituted Enki and Ninhursag for Sumerian gods that Dr. D. Basak does not mention.&nbsp; These gods are Simut for Mars and Ninurta for Saturn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With that said, here are my associations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Slide20-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Slide20-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11030\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Slide20-1.png 540w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Slide20-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0115 Once again, these associations are speculative.&nbsp; They show that this godhead differentiated sometime before the Sumerian Dynastic.&nbsp; Each god is distinct enough to associate to a wandering star (more or less).&nbsp; Plus, the association of Enlil<sub>3<\/sub> with Jupiter<sub>3<\/sub> is astrologically appropriate and historically associates to the lead god of a pantheon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0116 Another match comes from chapters 0 and 5 from Basak&#8217;s text.&nbsp; Each Sumerian city associates to a god.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Slide21-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Slide21-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11031\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Slide21-1.png 540w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Slide21-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>0117 The holy city of Nippur<sub>3<\/sub> associates with Enlil<sub>3<\/sub>.&nbsp; The first city is Eridu<sub>1<\/sub>, associating to Enki<sub>1<\/sub>.&nbsp; The dual-affiliated city of Uruk<sub>3and1<\/sub> associates to An<sub>3<\/sub> (one district) and Inanna<sub>1<\/sub> (another district).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0109 The only spot that does not contain the label for a god is the potential1 underlying Enlil3.
