The French Revolution\u2019s liberation of the empty Bastille compares to the apostle\u2019s discovery of Christ\u2019s empty tomb as infrasovereign compares to suprasovereign religion.<\/p>\n
Consider: What did each take from their respective empty space?<\/p>\n
The apostles took the news \u2013 or suspicion \u2013 of the Risen Christ.<\/p>\n
The French mob took unguarded armaments.<\/p>\n
Christianity lets sovereign power descend from heaven.<\/p>\n
The French Revolution seized sovereign power in an uprising.<\/p>\n
The relation between the person and the Risen Christ is beyond any symbolic order.\u00a0 In Lacanian terms, the Risen Christ is a buttonhole.\u00a0 Any button that apparently fits the buttonhole yields a symbolic order, then a social construction, that then finds itself slipping from the buttonhole and in need of renewal.\u00a0 There is no solution to Christ.\u00a0 Christ is the solution.\u00a0 Jesus is the object that brings us all into relation.\u00a0 A host of buttons (organizations) can be held by the buttonhole (of Christ’s interpellation).<\/p>\n
In contrast, three “organizational objects”, defined the symbolic order in the French Revolution: freedom (from the king), fraternity (of the mob) and equality (of expropriated properties).<\/p>\n
But those objects were not enough.\u00a0 Sovereign power was necessary to make the citizens subject to thinkpro-object<\/sup>. The armaments in the Bastille were needed to bring down the king, the nobles, the priests, the shop-keepers \u2026 okay … anyone who the mob did not like.\u00a0 Guns were needed to achieve “equality”.\u00a0 To resist was to \u201cbe against freedom, fraternity and equality\u201d.\u00a0 To resist was to thinkroyal_noble_churchy_greedy<\/sup>.\u00a0 To resist was to be declared thinkbourgouise<\/sup>.
