0163 What about the troubadours?  What about modern Cultural Studies<\/a>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troubadours sang of courtly love.  The knight was in love with the Lady of the Big House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The love was not consummated, at least not according to the songs, because that would violate the repressive norms of the tribal… er, feudal tradition, as well as the church.  So the knight pledged to defend the honor of the Lady.  The Lady, in turn, silently pined for the knight.  She carried a small token of him everywhere she went.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0164 Oh, I can hear the mournful lyrics of unrequited love!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0165 The knight is torn between his ego and his Self.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His ego is the part of him that swore fealty to the Lord of the Big House<\/em>.  The knight\u2019s ego has to work to keep order for the Lord.  He has to break up the occasional peasant brawls.  He has to fight bandits.  The peasants, of course, admire him for this.  He is the only one who actually does stuff for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His Self is the part of him that resonates with the troubadour\u2019s song<\/em>.  Sophia has a word for him.  That word is \u201chonor\u201d.  He loves the Lady of the Big House.  He yearns to defend her honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0166 Of course, the conflict may resolve in a tragic fashion.  The Gnostic message may give way to the elitist model.  The knight\u2019s Self may take charge.  He may look down on the Lord of the Big House<\/em> as a stooge of royal traditions<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0167 Here is the elitist model of this troubadour\u2019s tale:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0168 There is comedy in this image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The knight as an immaterial Self<\/em> is funny.  The fellow has a horse, armor, and sword.  He knocks the heads of peasants.  He mortally wounds bandits.  Yet, he defines his person as the Lady\u2019s unrequited love<\/em>.  Actually, he defines himself in quiet opposition to the Lord of the Big House<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0169 Is that goofy?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0170 The knight as Self<\/em> mimics the immaterial world contextualizing the material world<\/em>, just as the honor of the Lady of the Big House<\/em> puts the laws and traditions of feudal society<\/em> into perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0171 Yet, the knight as Self<\/em> also puts the Lord of the Big House<\/em> into a normal context.  The Lord of the Big House<\/em> is no longer a human<\/em>.  He is a thing, expressing material concerns<\/em>.  He is a shell of evil matter<\/em>.  The Lord of the Big House<\/em> is merely the puppet of the conditions that he was born into<\/em>.  He is a slave to the feudal world\u2019s reality principles<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0172 Even though all the characters in the troubadour\u2019s musical drama<\/em> are nominally Christian, the Gnostic infiltration affects more than the church.  It penetrates the economic and military power structures in feudal society.  Since feudal society subsists on loyalty oaths, any knight who adopted Gnosticism<\/em> would be dangerous to his duke or lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0173 Here is a story that ended up as a troubadour\u2019s song:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A duke<\/em> returns from a long and treacherous journey, doing the bidding of the king.  The lady of the big house<\/em> offers him a cup, a poisoned chalice.  With one sip, the duke slumps on his throne.  The duchess cries for help.  Who arrives first, but the dedicated knight?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

0174 The troubadour sings, \u201cThe king\u2019s work was too much. The duke fell from the overwhelming burdens of this evil and material world<\/em>. The knight claimed his soul mate and they flew to a spiritual union.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0175 If I were the duke\u2019s cousin, ruling a neighboring fiefdom, what would I think upon hearing the troubadour\u2019s song?  My cousin was a person, not some puppet of his royal conditioning<\/em>.  He was in fine health.  The king\u2019s duties did not kill him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0176 Once the Self3a<\/sub> puts the superego [causes] the ego(idreal<\/sup>)2a<\/sub><\/em> into the box of actuality<\/em> and projects that immanent causality onto others, then the Self3a<\/sub> has no constraints1b<\/sub>.  Natural laws and traditional social norms2b<\/sub> are no longer relevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the logic behind Burfeind\u2019s observation that Gnostic theory never applies to the theoretician<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The damned actuality2a<\/sub> of the elite Self3a<\/sub><\/em> has been packaged and sent to the Other2b<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Self3a<\/sub> is now contextualized by Sophia2c<\/sub>, personified by the Lady of the Big House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0177 Now, consider today\u2019s Cultural Studies.  Here is a typical presentation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The behaviors of subject A<\/em> are determined by social tradition A\u2019<\/em>.  The (super-ego related) A\u2019<\/em> causes the (ego-related) material concerns of A<\/em>, explaining why objections to (the Self-promoting) policy B <\/em>are merely artifacts of now-rejected cultural conditioning<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0177 How does this match the troubadour\u2019s song?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cultural Studies person<\/em> replaces the knight as a Gnostic elite3a<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fantasy-rich organizational objective, policy B<\/em>, replaces the unattainable Lady of the Big House2c<\/sub><\/em>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Policy B<\/em> puts the natural laws and pre-\u201cscientific\u201d social norms2b<\/sub> of subject A2a<\/sub><\/em> into perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The concerns and behaviors of subject A<\/em> go into the slot formerly reserved for the Lord of the Big House2a<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, subject A2a<\/sub> has no idea what is going to happen to him on the basis of Policy B.  Neither did the Lord of the Big House once the knight and his lady became Self-actualized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Folk theories based on the reality principle<\/em> replace idreal<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gnostic scientific theories<\/em> replace idfantasy<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0178 Finally, coming together through purely cultural accounts<\/em> replaces the spiritual union of lover and beloved1c<\/sub><\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cultural studies propose that biological differences are irrelevant compared to cultural conditioning. This happens to be true in the case of race. But, race is the rare exception<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, all cultural conditioning compares to racism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0179 (Needless to say, no faction of Christianity<\/em> has ever declared belonging to a race<\/em> to be sinful.  This is discussed in a Primer on An Infrasovereign Religion<\/em>, number 8 in the series.  Biology is not a moral decision.  Biology sets the stage for moral decisions<\/em>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a cultural studies agent (whether in academics or on television) states that opposition to policy B is due to racism, this is a code for a projection of \u2018the damned ego-actuality of the accuser\u2019 onto \u2018those who operate according to the reality principle\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The elite Gnostic is really posturing, \u201cI am not like the ones I accuse. Plus, I cannot defend policy B on grounds of the reality principle.  In fact, my support of policy B is a signal that I am above the reality principle.  <\/em>I am an expert compared to the dunces who oppose policy B<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
