{"id":10120,"date":"2026-02-24T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=10120"},"modified":"2025-10-12T13:24:39","modified_gmt":"2025-10-12T13:24:39","slug":"looking-at-mihhail-lotmans-article-2017-history-as-geography-part-5-of-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/?p=10120","title":{"rendered":"Looking at Mihhail Lotman&#8217;s Article (2017) &#8220;History as Geography&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0(Part 5 of 8)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>0796 Now, I repeat myself, more or less, with an awkward shift in associations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On page 268, the author makes an important observation.&nbsp;&nbsp;There is a popular saying that Soviet people (Russians in the USSR) think one thing and say another.&nbsp;&nbsp;This is a joke.&nbsp;&nbsp;This is also an act of will<sub>1a<\/sub>, as opposed to truth<sub>1a<\/sub>.&nbsp;&nbsp;If I spoke<sub>2a<\/sub>with truth<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;as&nbsp;<em>the potential<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;underlying my intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>,<\/em>&nbsp;then one could estimate that&nbsp;<em>what I think<\/em>&nbsp;(as&nbsp;<em>matter<\/em>)<sub>2a<\/sub>&nbsp;from&nbsp;<em>the form<\/em>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<em>what I say<sub>2a<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Slide15-3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Slide15-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10121\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Slide15-3.png 600w, https:\/\/www.raziemah.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Slide15-3-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, there is a problem with previous associations to the Greimas square, where my (Russian) truth<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;(D) contrasts with my (Russian) will<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;(C), contradicts my Russian identity<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;(A) and complements the dyadic actuality of {what I think<sub>2am<\/sub>&nbsp;[substantiates] what I say<sub>2af<\/sub>} (B).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0797&nbsp;<em>The author thinks that the actuality<sub>2a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;comports with&nbsp;<em>George Orwell&#8217;s doublethink,<\/em>&nbsp;where one holds two contradictory ideas in one&#8217;s consciousness.&nbsp;&nbsp;Is that like one form and two matters?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consciousness itself is doubled.&nbsp;&nbsp;Each consciousness is intrinsically coherent.&nbsp;&nbsp;Plus, the two consciousnesses do not seem to communicate with one another.&nbsp;&nbsp;The person experiences a &#8220;split reality&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0798 Does this &#8220;split reality&#8221; stands for &#8220;originating matter&#8221;.&nbsp;&nbsp;The &#8220;en&#8221; stands for &#8220;entangled matter&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0800 The focal term (A) is my Russian identity (in a Soviet regime)<sub>3a<\/sub>, corresponding to the normal context of the content-level of the interscope for the post-truth condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B contrasts with A.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>What I say as a content-level matter<sub>2ma<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;substantiates (rather than entangles)&nbsp;<em>my official consciousness as form<sub>2af<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;(B).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Somehow,&nbsp;<em>what I say<sub>2a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;changes from form to matter.&nbsp;&nbsp;Plus, consciousness<sub>2af<\/sub>&nbsp;stands as the form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I suppose that the normal context<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;and the potential<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;must be different than before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0801 Notably, this thing (B, matter and form) serves as&nbsp;<em>phenomena<\/em>&nbsp;for&nbsp;<em>psychometric analysis by experts<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are the experts trying to evaluate?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, Soviet experts are assessing my Russian will<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;(within the Marxist denkstyle) (C).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, in the USDB, two types of experts are employed, each utilizing a scientific format in order to camouflage their theoretically incompatible denkstyles (of capitalism and of communism).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course,&nbsp;<em>expert valuations<\/em>&nbsp;built by&nbsp;<em>two incompatible ideologies<\/em>&nbsp;and inscribed in&nbsp;<em>disciplinary languages that mimic scientific layouts,<\/em>&nbsp;may seem incoherent to&nbsp;<em>people without academic credentials<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consequently, many in the USDB no longer trust&nbsp;<em>the science<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, that is another story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0802 Right now,&nbsp;<em>my American will<sub>1a<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;(which underlies my intellect<sub>3a<\/sub>) (C) speaks against&nbsp;<em>what I say as matter<sub>2aom<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>my official consciousness as form<\/em>&nbsp;(B).&nbsp;&nbsp;My American will<sub>1a<\/sub>&nbsp;(C) complements my American identity<sub>3a<\/sub>&nbsp;(in&nbsp;<em>the USDB<\/em><em>regime)<\/em>&nbsp;(A) and, in doing so, partially accounts for the joke in point 0046.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0803 The joke is fulfilled when&nbsp;<em>my private consciousness as form,<\/em>&nbsp;which is&nbsp;<em>a facet of my consciousness&nbsp;<\/em>which is not official, entangles&nbsp;<em>what I think<sub>2am<\/sub>&nbsp;as matter<\/em>, implying that&nbsp;<em>what I think<sub>2am<\/sub><\/em>&nbsp;cannot substantiate&nbsp;<em>what I say<sub>2af<\/sub><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0804 Ha&#8230;ha&#8230;ha&#8230;.was that&nbsp;<em>an awkward shift in associations?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I suppose that the USSR and the USDB are not so&#8230;
